Did you have to drill a hole in the radio plate for this to adapt?
thanks
Nope, you actually have to drill two holes into the box' lid and then you can use the original holes in the top deck.

Default MTX4R Gear Selection

I just traded for a used car from RC Tech, it arrived and needs new spurs. It has 17/23 pinions. If I'm looking at this right, to match, I keep the same blocks, right?

So for 17/23, I can run either 60/54, 59/53, or 58/52?

Also, on the MTX4r, the chassis is supposed to be completely flat, or have a slight bend in the middle at the carrying handle? The middle is lower than the rest of the car, but it's symmetrical across the chassis...

Thanks guys! I'm looking forward to thumbing through the 67 pages for MTX reading when I get a chance.

Happy Nitros,
Aaron

Touringdriver,

Between the 3 and the 4 car, the front universals are the same but the rears are different, the arms and pinions are also different.
The MTX-4 is very upgradeable to be an MTX-4R: The difference are:

- T0142 Aluminum Wheel Hubs
- T0151-B Front Lower Arm
- T0161 Rear Upper Arm Mount
- T0164 Front Uprights (2)
- T0245 Front Universal Joint
- T0268 Front Belt (Rubber)
- T0269 Rear Belt (Rubber)
- T0270 Side Belt (Rubber)
- T0274 Rear Universal Joint
- T0276 Front One-Way Drive Axle
- H0369 Ventilated Brake Disk
- T0717 Aluminum Engine Mount

On the spur/pinions combo: The gears the car uses are 0.8 pitch. The diameter of the spur gears doesn't change with an increase or decrease of the number of teeth, unlike the standard 1.0 gears. So, you can run the 17 tooth pinion with either the 60,59, or 58 spur (and likewise on the 23 tooth pinion)

Hope that helps!

Thanks... So mesh isn't affected if I swap? If I pick any of the 3 listed for the 17, and then any 3 listed for the 23, mesh doesn't change? I looked at it as the gap between had to match proportionally somewhat.

No wonder why the holes in the chassis are so small. THanks! It is slowly sinking in...

The 0.8 gears are different than the 1.0 gears. With the 1.0 gears, the diameter goes up when a tooth is added. So you had to keep the same tooth split between 1st and 2nd gear. With the 0.8 gears, the diameter stays the same. The teeth on the gears get thinner (best way to explain it) to get more teeth in the same diameter spur gear. This gives you a greater range to tune your gearing, but makes having the gear mesh much more critical.

17-23 with 60-54 spur is a good starting point or 16-22 depending on tire diameter....

Boy, times r a changin... Thanks for the info! I was checking out the car earlier and kinda came up with a sure fire way to set the mesh. Remove the outer gear, set the mesh, and put the gear back on, recheck the mesh. Any variance, repeat...

Default gear stripping

Hey Guys,
I have a really bad and unknown problem going on with my car. Every single race i do i strip both 1st and 2nd gear. I have tried many things to fix this problem but nothing has worked. I have put brand new bearings in my engine. put brand new bearings in my clutch bell, have made sure my engine is square and meshed properly(done this many times), changed my EPA so that it doesn't pull the engine under throttle and brake, checked the bearing in the 2 speed housing, redone my clutch setup and made sure i had little end play, only 0.4mm. I have pretty much done everything i think. I just had a race meeting on sunday and i stripped 5 spur gears. What could be the problem? Maybe the clutch bell is warped??

Thanks,
Tim
