That was fast. I had actually found the link to Superior a month or so ago but at the time it showed them out of stock. Luckily I checked back for the heck of it last week and it listed four (found in overstock?). So I finally decided to purchase one and called yesterday thinking it was a typo since I had read about the difficulty of finding one and bam, they had it. I then came across this thread and thought about posting the link but someone beat me to it. Now there all gone.

I will be at the track all day today ~ 8am to 5pm. I'll have 3 different brands of tires with me - Jaco, KFactory and Kawahara - all marked "40 shore". It's the first time I'm trying the Kawaharas. Too bad I don't have a durometer...

The Maxmod is, as I have said, great for comparing your tires to each other. In my experience, it usually reads 5-10 points higher than an Asker Type C, but NOT ALWAYS. Sometimes it is spot-on. It is for this reason that I would only use it for reference. It is still a very useful tool. Just don't be surprised if your 40's read 50's. There may be a 1-2 point difference on any given brand from what is on the tire and what it actually is, but not a 10 point spread.

I just got my MaxMod today and spot checked a few sets of fresh fronts and rears

Jaco 35 rears ranged from 32- 37
Jaco 35 fronts ranged from 38- 41

Jaco 38 rears ranged from 36- 41
Jaco 38 fronts ranged from 39- 43

This was just a handful of tires, but the MaxMod looks to be a good bang for the buck.

Wow! Interesting results. I really wasn't expecting that much of an overlap.

If it's not too much trouble, could you also test some used 35s and 38s and share the results with us?

the results are proportional as expected.

from what i've seen of friends durometers the results i got are quite typical. remember- the gauge is touchy and if you push with more/less force the reading changes quite a bit.

i think Jack would agree- the results are well within the margin of error using a hand gauge vs. bench mounted guage on a stand.

Yeah they sold out in 30 minutes. I knew when they announced it I had to jump on the phone and get my saved away. Went in picked it up the next day.

Ive done some quick tests of the tires that are laying around in the room here. I was shocked.

It was exact.

35 shore twister = 35 shore on mm duro
40 shore twister = 40 shore on mm duro
42 shore serpent = 42 shore on mm duro

The numbers would roll around a bit but if you watch closely youll see it will bottom out at the same number everytime.

Allthough it seems the manufacturers ive tried so far are passing with full colors. I gotta try the rest of them in my pit box. Jacos , speedminds , grp , fast tires are next.

The way i see it, the only way to get an accurate reading with the durometers is to mount it on a stand, otherwise it all depends on how hard you push.
