shock rebuilding, and fluid levels..

i think i might be assembling my shocks wrong. or atleast the fluid level, and keep blowing my seals.

i have a NTC3 V2.. and ive always filled the body to the top, and the cap, and slapped it together.. and i always blow out the top cap's o ring.

do i have TOO MUCH fluid in my shocks?

anyone have links on shock assembly and fluid levels?

Hi,

Your exactly right. You are filling your shocks with too much oil.
AE shocks like the ones you have rely on having a small amount of air in the shock when being used.

The trick is to get them all the same.

Try putting just below the top of the shock body of fluid in the shock. Pump it and wait for all the bubbles to dissipate.
Then put a little fluid in the lid, just a small amount(!) then put the lid on.

Try to have the same amount of fluid in all your shocks.
The trick like I said is to get your shocks all acting the same.
Losi has a very good shock balancing tool which will do just that.

I hope that helps. :)

yes too much oil can blow out the o-ring.
i always fill my shocks up (vone rrr evo) so that the piston pushes out about halfway.
eg. once the lid is on, hold the shock upright and pump it a few times then see how far the piston pushes itself back out.it should only travel out about halfway.
make sure all 4 shocks push out about the same distance.

the way i tell if my shock needs rebuilding is if the piston doesn't push out at all or if i can hear a bubbling squeaky noise(which means the shock has air inside it).

yeah, im not an expert nitro racer by all means, and i was having a problem keeping the top o ring at the hat keeping sealed..

when i packed my shocks, i would fill it up 3/4, push the rod in and out, and get some bubbles cleared.. then fill er up domming the top, and then fill up the cap maxed out also, and hurry and put it together thinking i could get 0 air in the shocks..

i didn't know you needed air at the top of the shock... hahaha.. man, helps to ask questions.

$30 at hobbytownusa..

im not a hardcore racer yet.. so i think im just going to play with those fluid levels, and see what effects it makes.
