Reciever pack cycling
What settings do you guys use when your cycling your reciever packs. Things like:
Charge Amps- Peak detection mV- After charge delay- Discharge Amps- After discharge delay- I'm using a 1100mah pack and a Reedy Quasar Pro. The manual recommends these settings: Charge- 1 Amp Peak detection-3mV After charge delay-2 min. Discharge-.8 Amp or less After discharge delay-30 min. Do these setting sound about right? |

I usually will cycle my packs only once every 3 or 4 races and this has been ok for me. All of my Receiver packs NiCd/NiMh, get charged at 1 amp and I've never had runtime problems doing so. If you are on a really tight budget, I recommend charging at 0.5 amps (1/2) as this is easier on the batteries. My threshold settings are always at the Max (Quasar Pro) with either type. For discharging/cycling, I always use 1 amp. I don't recommend cycling unless your having problems with a particular pack. All battery packs have a maximum number of cycles in their useful life. By cycling unnecessarily, you are that much closer to the end of a packs lifespan. BTW, the MAIN reason that I charge at 1 amp is, TIME. With all of the Cars, Radios and equipment that I am responsible with getting ready for race day (3-4 Cars) time becomes a major factor. (but YOU knew that already) |

i use an eagle CDC charger v5.0... you would probably know it as an integey something..
i charge my trinity 1100mah NiMh RX packs at the following settings: 1 amp peak detect mv: 4mv discharge: 0.8 amps this has worked for me fine, i discharge my packs and put about 40 percent charge in them because they have to sit around for 3 weeks between races... i have two packs one i use for races and the other i use for testing.... the race pack gets less use and the best treatment. the practice/testing pack gets a kinda hard life (in comparison to the race pack) and it works equally as good as the better pack |

I'm cycling my pack this time because its been sitting here since I bought it with a partial charge in it. Now that I might actually get to run the car, I want to cycle the pack to get a little life into it before I use it. Thats all. Yeah...I know about your time constraints when it comes to dealing with all your cars!:lol: Advanti: cycling is simply using your charger to do what you would normally do with your battery packs anyway. You normally charge your packs, then dump them in your car with normal use, but by cycling with your charger, you're charging them, then dumping them(using the discharge function) and repeating as many times as you wish. It helps to condition the pack. Its much more important with Ni-CD packs than it is with Ni-MH. |

I agree, if the pack has been sitting for more than a week or two, I would definately cycle at least once to stabilize the cells.
I'm not racing this weekend :cry:, so the packs will get cycled for the next race. I have some older 5 cell NiCd packs that are giving me trouble, so they will probably get replaced with NiMh's before next weekend. |
