Ralph has run the some set of gears on his car since Ft Myers. That's about 3 hours of running on that set of gears so far.

Maybe a small rock in the pinion gear?

Perhaps.

Would be interesting to note if other people were stripping gears (lots of small rocks on the track) - or if something happened prior to the gears stripping (flipped the car, into the grass, hit something, somebody hit him) - or if something particular was going on when the gears stripped. Maybe he found something after the fact.

I'm not really pointing at the gears themselves, just try to understand the circumstances. I could be mistaken, but I think this is the first time I've read that an NT1 stripped a gear. I also think it's the first time I read a race report that someone won a race with a stripped gear. Most guys just retire.

. didn't he run over 900 laps at the winter nats with no problems ?
think about all the nt1's running in competition recently and all the laps under those cars . i think a gear stripping problem would have surfaced long before this incident

I don't think it's a gear stripping problem at all.

It is also true that the car is not in the hands of the consumer, so there are not so many out there running.

I was at the race were jilles stripped the gear.
It's a very rough track, it was also very hot last weekend.
On my own car i had a piece of tar stuck between the gears which had come loose because of the heat.
Maybe this also happened on jilles car, but he just went full throtlle in first gear on the back straight.
Every one waited when the engine gonna blow up.
But he was lucky that the track isn't really fast, second place driver could really come close on the straight but jilles was faster in the corners, and the guy who came in second had some bad luck in the pits during refuelling.

Thanks for the info. The race must have been really fun to watch. Jilles is one amazing guy. Looks like the NT1 is helping him reach his full potential as an on-road nitro racer.

Only Barry?!! Darn! I was hoping that you and Paul would be going as well - make it another 1-2-3 win.

Should be interesting to see how things go with the West Coast crowd.

The 0 offset Jaco rims fits, which is the same as the Serpent.

Default Tires

Ralph,

What for a tire split do you run usually? Martin told me ;he is running harder tires at the rear. For more steering. Did you do this too?
I now that, s 720 drivers do this too, because they have to much rear tire wear and for better tire wear balance (front & rear)they have to do this.
Is this the same reason by NT1?

thnx
Christian
