Default Serpent 960 rear dogbone?

-How much play (side to side) should the rear dogbones have on the 960. I installed them tonight and set the gaps as close as i could to what the manual said for the pivot balls. It seems like i have 1/4 inch side to side movement? Is this normal? The manual says to use the shorter inserts in the axles, but i still have this much play with the longer inserts? What gives. I don't want to jam a dogbone on my maiden voyage....
