Can 12V truer run from a starter box
I have a 12V starter box with a 7A sealed lead calcium battery (gel cel). Will the starter box battery have enough power to run a tire truer and the starter box at the track?
Is it ok to use a manual truer or is an auto unit a must have?

you should have enough power to run the tire truer and the starter box from a 12v 7ah battery but just to be on the safe side i'd pick up another 12v 7ah battery just for the truer.
you could always try testing it out at home before hitting the track let the truer run for 30 min and see if it still has enough juice to crank over your engine, I'd do this several times to see how long it'll last this way you can know for sure.
if you have the big pink ofna box you can shoe horn a 12v 12ah battery in there and have plenty of power to run both as well as a charger.

Yes and No.....It will run it, but it will not make huge cuts like if you were using a 30amp power supply or hooked up to a car battery. I tried this one time and the truer slowed down and stopped. The battery was fully charged, but when trying to cut down a tire 4mm in a pass like I have done before, it didn't have enough power to make it. I had to back it off and take it 2mm at a time. So, your answer it, Yes it will do it, but No, I won't do it again.

I don't want to spend $300 on a ttuer so I was thinking about this truer:

With this bit:

Will this combo be okay for an occasional racer?

I tried one of those truers today, while it was good it was extremely slow and poorly deisgned.
The belt slips stopping the wheel and the biggest cut i could make at a time was 1/2 mm, spend the extra money and get something better!

With a starter box battery I think it will spin but not enough speed or torque.
Most tire truer is amp crazy. You need big amp ( 20A power supply at least ) to properly run the heavy load motor.
My 7T motor pulls around 15 amp on motor checker.

why buy another battery when you have one in your car that charges itself? avg. car battery is 500+ CCA, when a cheap little garden battery is 185 CCA (and you have to worry about charging it between race days).
just use the battery in your car...... unless your mom is dropping you off at the track

Because I don't want all of the black foam dust around my engine compartment and I don't want to set it up four times a day and then put it back in the trunk each time I use it. We don't pit at our car, we all pit together in the pit area and our cars are in the parking lot where no one is around to know that the $300 truer is safe. Thats why.
