Default OS .12TZ 5 or 3 port?

Wel I have decided on the OS TZ for my Mugen MTX-4. My local hobby shop only has the 3 port though. Which is my best bet? 3 or 5 port. It is my understanding that the 5 port has a bit more top end. If that is true, is it enough to warrant having my hobby shop order the 5 port?

The 5 port uses a little more fuel I think, have not tried it myself. Tower sells the piston and sleeve for $40 if you want to try the 5 port and use the same engine.

Are the 3 port and 5 port crankshafts the same?Making the 3 port into a 5 port may be more than just changing the piston and sleeve..

well, it all depends which type of race you want to join. in big races, only 3 port engine are allowed. if you plan to just play around with the kit and join the outaw class, then go for the 5 ports

It depends on what you plan to run. If you get the 5 port you have to run in outlaw class. The three port is roar legal to run in the 200mm chassis.

The cranks are different between the two models.

Both engines have the same bore and stroke. The differance is in the size of the center bore in the crankshaft. The 5 port has a bigger bore then the 3 port. The 5 port crank will give you better top end and a little less low end torque.

I would never disagree with you....the only time an OS engine lasted for me,was when I substituted an RB in my car...and put the OS on the shelf...
