Default Head Shimming

Dennis,

Have you ever posted anything or saw anything related to head shimming and what the rule of thumb may be ??????

When Brad and I went to Vegas to test I went through 5 glow plugs (mc-59)and then a few (mc 9's) until he suggested putting a shim under the head.

The way I understand it, is that, adding shims will "decrease" low end power and removing shims may "add" low end power , however, at the risk of glow plug destruction.

Any Comments ?????

IT changes compression, stock is like 23:1, +.1 mm is ~21:1, -.1 mm ~ 26:1. By changing compression you change timing which combined with the nitro (catalyst) and plug rxn (hot/cold) determines when ignition starts. If it starts too soon before TDC, the pressures are immense and damage will result, like a blown plug.

Thanks Chris.

Thanks RD Logics also, your pipes run very well on my engines.
Thanks Mugen, for a killer car.

Recent Update from Mugen UK
hi dennis,
good news from mugen uk up to date we have done 2 meetings results are as follows 2 poles and 2 wins can`t ask any better than that!!
rd logic has got a new pipe on the market which we have tryed it is called in the uk a .12 turbo legal pipe with 5.1mm stinger outlet. with this pipe on a rto motor with 16% nitro was faster in a straight line than a 1/8 scale car this raised some eyebrows.

Has anyone tried that RD Logics pipe on the TC3 yet? Very interested to see if it helps out with the problems.

Kevin:

not great. Still sorting out the car. I did break my personal best lap time at the track by .6 seconds though. Now a 16.7 lap. Still working on getting lower.

Not bad! That's why I stayed away from sedan last weekend, I'm still working on a setup for the Mugen for Revelation. It's tricky too now, because since Dana sealed the track, tire wear is improved but traction changes much more dramatically now as the day passes. Hopefully I'll have time later this week to keep practicing...see ya around.
