Default Radio recommendations. any suggestions

Thinking of getting a new radio and don't really know much about them. anybody got any suggestions and what benefit will i see over the standard am hitec radio i've already got.

I heard that the airtronics mx-3 is good but it has no abs

This wil be used on my rs4/3 type ss and savage.

I really don't think that you should let the lack of abs deter you from trying the MX-3. You can't beat that price for the features it has.

That radio or the JR Racing XR3i seem pretty good for gas racing applications.

You can check both of them out in the latest issue of RCCA.

ABS is cool but over-rated go with a "quality" radio that feels right, nobody can decide what feels right except for you.

ABS is not legal for ROAR racing.

functional abs is not. simulated by the radio is because it is really not abs. it is pulsed brakes with no automatic compensation.

abs is cool to have but not completely necessary with properly setup radio brakes wouldnt lock up unless you want them to its all about setting your endpoints correctly

that being said the mx3 is a steal at the price jr xr3 is ok but not really very different from mx3 but costs more i had xr3 when i first started and it served me well but i upgraded to m8 for exponential which new xr3 now has

if your looking to spend some more money m8 is a good radio for around 240

i have a ko propo mars r and i think it is the best radio ever it is small and light and not hard to use has tons of adjustments more than i can ever need and it feels faster than m8 cost me 240

i had m8 and upgraded to mars r because my m8 was old and the battery pack was giving me problems i could have just replaced it but decide to try something new

novak makes a module for m8 when used with novak synthesizer reciever no crystals are needed pretty cool

futaba has new 3pk is supposed to be the baddest radio ever and i have heard great things about their radios but i dont like how it looks and its kinda expensive

i had a jr r1 for a week and it was ok but i felt that it may get broken with the big screen on the front and it cost alot

check out the buy/sell forums of RC tech and RCCA.. there are some really good deals. I just got a brand new Mars EX-1 for only 130!. anyway, i'd say go with a pdf.. the mx-3 is cheap, but it feels cheap. Xr3 has a nice feel to it, but it lacks an exponential feature that the pdf and mx-3 has (called ARC).

a new mx-3 is about $120.
a new xr3 is about $170.
a new 3pdf is about $180.

but again check the boards. there are a few new xr3's floating around that might go for ~$110.
and some used 3pdf's for ~$100.

"ABS" sucks up all your battery juice......and it is just "brake" in pulse action....doesn't really work.

I have tried many transmitters and servos over the years but the Futaba Magatech 3PJ I have been using the past year has been excellent. And the Futaba s9540 servos I use are very fast, stong and reliable. I bought this combination more than a year ago and have had NO problems. I drive my nitro car on our track 12 to 16 hours a week. I have bought cheap servos in the past but it just wasn't worth all the trouble. I actually will save money this year as I am sure I won't need to purchase another servo to replace a faulty cheap one.

Whichever radio you pick up, touch it - feel it first! I almost bought a radio that my hand just wouldn't fit in well. Since you're gonna be holding it for some time. . .get one that also feels good (not discounting the nice features either. . .)

Hi guys,

Which one is better, the Futaba 3PK or the proven Airtronics M8? I heard that many champions used the M8.
