one thing you should keep in mind...and I'm getting this off Horizon's website..

the full size PRO's guts are treated to be gunk and motor spray safe......NOT fuel proof.....its the plastic material in the case that is fuel proof..and again,it doesn't say leak proof.....So I'm not sure getting fuel in the innards is still such a good idea.....

SR3001 DSM 3-Channel Pro Series Rx, Surface

Overview

While the original system adds just 5.6 milliseconds (that’s 5.6 thousandths of a second), to your radio’s own processing time, the new Pro System’s module and receiver combine to lower this already miniscule figure to a scant 3.0 milliseconds. (Each new module and receiver–– either of which may used with your original system’s components –– reduces original system processing time by 1.3 milliseconds.)

It all adds up to lightning fast response and it’s sure to have racers feeling more connected than ever.

To handle the rigors of competitive racing, we’ve treated your Pro Series receiver with a virtually clear conformal coating called ReliaKote.™ It’s an exclusive Spektrum plus that ensures reliable performance no matter how much dirt , gunk and motor spray works its way into your Pro Series receiver’s case.

Increasing durability even more, we've changed the type of plastic used for the case. The new case is now fuelproof. No need to worry about small fuel spills -- it can take it!

With the new Pro Series, we've taken a great thing and made it even better!

The micro has a plastic case that is fuel proof(not leakproof)..I'm not reading anywhere that the guts are treated in any way for anything.....

Only 1/3 the size of SR3000 receiver
Pro programming lowers latency 1.3ms (2.6ms when used w/Pro Module)
Lower operating voltage
Integrated voltage protector
Forward and backward compatible with all surface systems (except HRS)
Fuel and motor-spray resistant plastic

Thats interesting it doesnt mention anti-static. Since thats one thing horizon spoke about causing trouble and the new circuitry is coated against.

I also heard that gunk , dirt and crap in the bottom of the reciever would also cause trouble. And that new coating prevents against that cutting out as well.

Well. I was right, lol. Just got the new horizon catalog.

Check out the gunk proof section. Looks like on spektrums website they cut off the last part.

Also the anti-static seems to be a software fix? Kinda crazy....but yeah these things are definently a good upgrade as you can see in terms of reliability now. As well for nitro racers who dump fuel everywhere.

Jeez what bright spark in R&D thought that it was a good idea to have non compatibke systems!!

The HRS system and the SR3500 receiver are the only ones that cannot use the telemetry. The original systems and the new Pro series (charcoal colored case) can use the telemetry.

Is anyone using the new SR3500 with 4 cells and a Sphere and/or Sphere Competition, and no Rx receiver pack? Any problems with BEC voltage or anything?

I run 12th scale, 4 cells, and have both the original Sphere and the Sphere Competition. I really like the size of this receiver and want to start using it. I do not own a Futaba 3PK yet, so what do you recommend? Are all 3PK transmitters the same (with the exception of the modules, servos, receivers that they come with)? My preference is the black 3PK.

The SR3500 has a lower operating voltage that the original receivers of 3.2V. It should work just fine with 4-Cells.

Thank you RCGary. I am aware that on paper, it should work, but I was looking for feedback of those who are using this combination successfully.

The combo in question is: SR3500 Rx, 4 cells, Sphere and/or Sphere Competition, and no Rx receiver pack.

In testing, there have been zero issues with the 3500 and 4-cells

If you ARE going to trim the antenna, just be sure to trim it per the instructions. I.e., don't just take 1" off the antenna -- follow what Spektrum says.

This stuff rocks... it has so completely changed my practice at the track that I can't even imagine going back to the bad old days of 75MHz. RC hobbyists finally have 21st century radio technology!

Ziggy -- go back and check out the spektrum catalog that was posted in this thread. The HRS stuff has 2ms response and the Pro stuff has 3ms response. The way the catalog text reads it sounds like to get 2ms response they had to make the link incompatible with the Pro stuff.

I'm not nearly a good enough racer to tell the difference between 2ms and 3ms, so I'm going to go Pro Still, any Spektrum is better than no spektrum... anyone want to buy some KO crystals?

Has anyone been able to take apart the case on the micro receiver without destroying it?

I want to take it apart to drill out the antenna hole large enough for an antenna tube but it's proving difficult.
