Default Parma Type M 200mm body

I painted and mounted up one of these brand new bodies from Parma this past weekend and was asked to share my findings. FYI, I mounted onto my MTX4.

First, it mounts pretty easily. It has a long back deck so there is no problem with body mounts hitting the wing mounts. I used the front wheel wells to locate where to mount the body. It came out mounted very slightly forward from where I intended, but pretty close.

I will start with the things to watch out for. The rear wheel wells are pretty vaguely drawn on the body. Use the front wells to locate the body on the car. I had to raise the front body mounts up one hole otherwise I would have had to cut off the entire front chin spoiler. This is compared to the Protoform Mazda and Stratus 3.1. The body does not have lines into the lexan to help locate where the stickers go.

The handling is quite good. As a refernce point, I run the Stratus 3.1. I found that the Mazda 6 had not nearly enough steering for my driving style. That being said, I found the M-type to have much better steering than that of the Mazda. It was a little tail happy, but quite controllable. More steering than the stratus as well. I also feel that the tail happy condition can be quite easily fixed by doing either/both of the following. There is room to slide the body back a little. The other thing is this. When I mounted the rear wing, I simply drilled the holes in the wing and the body where the little dimples were in the lexan. When you mount it this way, the wing is quite forward of the rear bumper. I would say there is a good half inch that I could slide the rear wing backwards and still be legal.

I am in the position of getting support from both Parma and Proline (and appreciate it a lot.. thanks!!!) so the findings that I have posted are pretty unbiased.

I'm sold on the Parma Alfa on carpet/foams. Looking forward to trying the new M this season. Scott, thanks for review. Mine will be going on an MTX4 as well.

Hello Guys,

I got the chance to test the Parma Type-M body the other weekend out at Crystal Park (Home of the 2006 Sedan Nationals) and wanted to share my observations about it.

I will skip the part about the "Mounting of the Body" because I'd say Scott hit it right on the money on his observations about that.

Running the Parma Type M back to back with the Kawahara Lexus and the Stratus 3.1, I found the Parma Type M makes the car turn a tad more than the Stratus 3.1 but not as much steering as with the Kawahara Lexus..... The Type M body felt very stable all around the track. Though as Scott has noticed, I too felt the rear end having earlier tendency of breaking loose (when driving on the aggressive side) compared to the Stratus 3.1...

Overall, I do like how it handles. I think with good traction, it can make for quicker lap times than the Stratus 3.1... In a nut shell, here is how I would describe the three bodies I have been running (in no particular order):

Kawahara Lexus : Most amount of Steering / Least rear end Stability
Parma Type M : Medium amount of Steering / Medium rear end Stability
Protoform Stratus 3.1 : Least amount of Steering / Most rear end Stability

There were no set up changes in between runs. Obviously the idea is to pick a body that best suits your driving style and fine tune from there.

If you guys are looking to try bodies to make your cars work best for you, I think this is one of the bodies to consider.

I also tested the body this weekend against the Alfa body and I felt the Type "M" had more steering and was more stable down the back straight.

As both Ron C. and Scott pointed out the rear was a little loose, but I moved the rear wing back about 2mm (within legal limits) and the rear was much more stable when driving on the aggressive side.

Hope this helps,

Mark

i was told by someone that roar has gotten rid of the rule where
the rear of the wing cannot pass or go beyond the rear bumper of the
body.

Great review guys. Can't wait to try it out - but where can I buy it online? It wasn't listed at the PARMA site and I couldn't find it through Google. Any suggestions?

Thanks!
