Default Help rookie racer with Serpent 720..!!!

Hi all,i`m getting a very nice deal on a new build Serpent 720 unruned with a new and not broken in Picco/JLR.12 red dot evo3 with sirio pipe and i think i`m buying it.

I`m new to rc cars and plan on racing it and i need some servos for it and need some suggestions.

I was thinking of the following servos for racing at my club:

Futaba-S9452`s
JR-Z9100S,Z9100T`s
Spektrum-S6030`s

Will all these servos fit on the chassis with no problems?,cause i have read the specs on the servos and some are bigger than others specially the JR`s

I hope you guys can help me out on choosing the best servos for steering and throttle for the Serpent720.

Also where is the best place for getting parts for my car?.

Thanks all.

you cant go wrong with Futaba servos.

I'm trying Savox servos on my 720 they have some very competitive prices

Ok, I have been having a problem with my 720, shredding first gear. It started happening last year before i put it away for winter, I have completely rebuilt the car, and it is still doing it! When I have both first and second gear on the car, the first gear will mesh, then by turn them by hand, after acouple of revolutions, the first gear teeth no longer mesh, then by forcing the gears along (by this time they would already be stripped), they start to re-mesh again!

So, I have replaced the motor (figured bad bearings?), replaced the bearings inthe clutch, and in the transmission. I have replaced the pinions, and the spurs, and I pulled out the transmission shaft and it appears to be straight (i rolled it on a cast-iron table saw top).

The pinions are a 16T, and 21T, the spurs are 61, and 56T.

I was told that if the teeth added up for both first and second gear then the mesh should be okay. (77 for both).

I am at a complete loss now, The problem seems to only happen when I have both first and second gear on the car, which makes me think the gear sizes are wronge some how.

Any suggestions?

Shawn.

Chetck you bulkehead bearings too, and make sure the chassis isnt bent. Maybe your gears are for the 733? They look similar, but they're not. 2 years of running the 720 and I never had that problem, its strange. I would replace the shaft, it may look straight, but its probably bent. ALso, make sure the motor is not moving.

Whats different about them? Are they a different pitch? That would make sense of how they get out of sync. I know the pinions are 720, but I will have to see if I can find some older spur gears then. I was under the impression only the pinions changed. I am going to order a new transmission shaft just to be on the safe side.

Looks like I am pulling the car apart tonight again, I gotta get this figured out before the points season starts!

ok guys i picked up gonzo rr's 720 and want to give nitro a shot i have raced electric tc for 9yrs do lookin for some setup help for my first outing with it.
so im askin what kind of ride height u guys run on a parking lot race track and whatabout droop also. im the track dirrector for our club so i have control over the flow of the track and attempt to keep it flowing mid/high speed infield with no 180s out side dementions r about 180 x 80. also the car has a mega zx12 modded motor and gonzo ran 16%nitro thru it but in our area everyone runs 20-30% nitro so what adjustments would i need to make to run those higher quanities of nitro.

Justin for ride height gererally you would run 6-7mm front 7-8mm rear depending on track conditions.
If you want to run higher nitro % 20% should be ok with out any adjustments to the engine. I would recomend doing a brake in process.
If you want to run higher % then you would have to add a .1mm shim under the cooling head for every 5% of nitro (if I remember well) somebody correct me if I'm wrong
I think 16% should be just fine I run 16% on my OS .21VG that's on my GT when guys at my track run 30% and keep burning plugs and having tunning problems on the same engine

because if your using the HV servos, you dont need tyo run a reg anymore, so the lipo then has its advantages. your calling me slack ? you built the 733 yet ?
