Fantastic build and loved your write up. I too love classics from the early 2000s, all the RC cars I wanted as a young kid are from that era and I am slowly collecting them all. An NTC3 is certainly on the list

Did anyone actually make gear diffs for the NTC3? I've been running ball diffs because that's all I've ever found.

I saw shapeways come out with a gear diff(B44.3 style) that can fit...Hopefully somebody tried it in the rear of the ntc3....

Did this clutch bolt right up or did you have to do any mods?

I didn't have to modify the engine or the flywheel, but I did have to use a longer pilot shaft and a pair of flanged 5x8x2.5 ball bearings for the HPI clutch bell to rotate on.

1770 grams. I could save some weight if I switched to aluminum screws, a plastic-gear servo, plastic shocks, and a tiny LiPo, but I prefer the durability of the parts I'm currently using and the incredibly long shelf-life of lithium AAs. If I really wanted to drop weight, I'd buy one of those custom-made carbon-fiber chassis I've seen on Facebook lately, but this car is already 170 grams lighter than my Nitro RS4s, so I'm really not worried about shaving a few more grams. Maybe someday I'll buy a set of titanium screws for it -- hell, maybe someday I'll be able to afford titanium screws for all my RCs; that would be nice.
