We (ROAR) maybe missing the point.

The same Racer broke another racers car at the beginning of the A-Main at last years 2005 ROAR Nats. FL Now, a year later this same racers breaks another racers car at the beginning of the A-Main for a second year in a row at the 2006 Nats.

Now if we allow this to happen again in 2007, Lord help us.

So the point is, what and will ROAR take actions to avoid this again. What is the point of having an hour along event, if the competitors can not even make it to the first corner.

Oh, yah. Mark, you are the man. Engine change in 3 minutes before the race started of the A was Awesome.

Thanks Ted!

Looks like I get to much practice doing that.

You could say it's ROAR's fault that this accident happened this year. If the offical had left the program alone (the club had planed on 12 car finals) the 13th place car would not have t-boned Josh. In fact they went as far to included a 14th car!

Ted,
What do you have for an idea to elminate this problem? Maybe spread the cars out more on the start is a way to help?

Ralph: "Hey Mark, the motor blew up as I went over the line!"
Mark: "You're kidding?"
Ralph: "No, really!"

Well, I guess we could only have 5 cars in the final that way there would be zero cars behind Josh to T bone him. My opinion is the car count had nothing to do with this. Every driver on the stand had throttle, brakes, steering, and a brain and it is up to each one of them individually to use those tools to the best of their ability to finish the 60 minute event. Unfortunately, 3 did not finish the first 60 feet. I have seen starts like this occur with 10 cars just as well as 13 or 14 cars. I have never read or seen in any of the rules where every driver is entitled to a clean start. That is the responsibility of each driver on the grid whether there be 5 or 15.

Cincy is a big track why not use it to space the start grid further apart, let TQ have some breathing room in the first corner so he does not have to worry about geting taken out in the first corner
or maybe a rolling start?

I watched the start of the 03 worlds races at the same track from the 1/16 to the final and each start pretty much went off without a hitch. They used an airhorn and started the cars on the frontstretch probably with less spacing than they have on the backstretch. Rolling starts are too complicated and would probably cause more problems. I think that maybe the cars being closer to the drivers then the drivers on the stand they could hear and see much easier than on the backstretch. Even though the start boxes are spaced closer there the first corner was not too far away so you don't need to be on the gas that hard to get to it compared starting from the backstretch. Plus when your spaced tighter together it forces each driver to throttle up much more carefully.

I offer this theory as mine and hopefully to improve heads up starts in the future. I'm thinking that the general thought was the backstretch was needed to space out the cars further. But perhaps this thinking caused the opposite of the desired effect compared to the advanges of being on the frontstretch (closer & slower) and spaced tighter (drive more carefully). Anyone think so as well?
