Default The 2016 IFMAR Worlds thread

So the 2016 Worlds are less than 2 months away now, and the various teams and drivers are drawing-up their battle plans for the most prestigious event in off-road RC to be held in Las Vegas.

Organizers have decided to break with the tradition of faster, more manicured circuits and create a more "off-road" type of track. More details here:
http://www.neobuggy.net/2016/04/05/v...urface-update/

With that said, and as it will more closely resemble the kind of surface we saw at the 2015 Silver State race, it might be worth looking into what drivers and machinery did well at that race. You may want to set your way-back machine to this link:
http://www.neobuggy.net/2015/03/30/t...-silver-state/

Will underdog tire manufacturer AKA pull a rabbit out of their hat and storm to victory against a field of Pro-Line, or was Ronnefalk's Swedish Cup disaster an omen of things to come?
http://www.neobuggy.net/2016/08/02/l...h-cup-victory/

My friends, discuss!

The second link is the same as the first captain.

Neobuggy seem to want to pervert the meaning behind Ronnefalk's lack of luck. He's good but 1/8th nitro racing is 45-60 minutes long, no amount of luck lasts that long, it's be prepared or suffer the consequences.

AKA failed to stay relevant. What a good start though.

I hope the track gets as bad as it was during the SS! Less boring to watch and will keep everyone on their toes.

Also it will mean drivers and teams will have to do their research on shock tuning, ultimately benefiting all of us.

Thanks for starting the thread!

I'm confused by this statement, AKA are as far as I know a major manufacturer and their products are very popular in the marketplace, how could you turn that into not being relevant?

Please clarify.

Because AKA doesn't go by the "thousand monkeys on typewriters" strategy of tire development. I am sure whenever or what the develop will be judiciously copied.

I'm sure aka will be well prepared. I think they are being judged by the last worlds, that track was difficult(concrete). The Vegas track is only a few hours drive from socal,so I'm sure mark's drivers have been testing there a lot.

Sure, Johnny T is right on. That's the matter with AKA right now, they have launched some pretty good tire treads like the Impacts, Cityblock and so on but being at the front means others will leech on your R&D, same to other companies.

A certain driver with a goatee?
Rivkin is clean cut, he is definitely gonna be a contender. Allot can happen in 60 minutes.

At least 7 racers have a really legitimate chance at winning in my opinion. I'm hoping it's not a one or two horse race. A lot of racers battling for the win to the end would awesome!

So you are saying that the fact that other manufacturers copy AKA's tire designs, make them "not relevant"?
Wouldn't it rather be the case, if everyone else are copying their designs, that means they are in fact highly relevant?

I think it's a very odd statement to make, saying one of the two market leaders are "not relevant".

It's not odd, let me explain myself. By relevant I meant they are now at the same level as the other tire companies. They aren't the cutting edge any more. Like Picco a few years ago when the motors were good but the competition offered something more, now they are back at the top again. Just that, I didn't said they faded into oblivion

AKA tires are fast in Vegas.

But, in 1/8th scale 60 minute race, a lot can happen.
