Default Steering issue

Guys got an issue with the steering on my 7r getting tight as the race goes on? blew 2 steering servos last race from the issue. Problem is that on the bench before the race all seems free and good then as the race goes on it seems that my steering gets tighter and tighter to the point where I blow a servo or have virtually no steering. It can come and go at times to steering normal then tighten again. It seems to be a bit freer on the gas? Track is pretty loose and dusty. Servos where savox sg1268 so pretty strong. do you guys have any tips for things that I should look for that could help?

cheers Pegger

Hi pegger, that's an odd problem if you have the car built correctly.
The first thing I can think of is your pillowball bush holders in the front hubs are not set to tight or too close and are binding up the steering, or they are just a bit too close and with dust and dirt getting in there they bind up.

Check there is some clearance with the steering at full lock both ways...while you're checking this make sure you are not pulling past full lock and straining the servo.

Craig.

cheers, will look at that today when I get to do a break down and clean. I was thinking that it might be that issue. might just pull down the front end anyway and check. Just checking what people think if there might be anything else. seem to remember I had a similar issue with the 7 but for the life of me cannot remember what i did to fix it lol

sounds like a good plan, hard to think of anything else apart from the steering post bearing being seized up from getting wet...disconect the steering servo horn and feel if it's tight the steering is, should be free as.

How are you fixing the tight steering after it gets tight?

pegger,

try disconnecting the servo and see how the steering feels. It should flop from side to side with very little pressure. Check the bearings in the bellcranks. I have had one seize before, but usually it stays frozen.

can you post a pic?

You may have too much droop set on the lower arm causing the top ones to go too low, measure the shock length at full droop, should be 103-104mm.

Did you find the problem pegger?

Also set your steering end points at ride height or lower and not sitting on a box at full droop.

Pegger, I am almost posative you are killing the 1268's by having your steering endpoints to far. I did the same thing to my 1268, I changed the EPA mid race and by end of race the servo lost power. Next race it was fine till it got hot and it lost power again. Kinda a common problem with the 1268's when stressed via having to much steering EPA.

we found out 3 years ago while intense tests with savox, that 1267/1268 are too weak for 1/8 off-road.
i switched to 2270-2274 line, now all is fine.

Sorry guys been sick, I had a look at my steering and it looks like I tightened the screw on the servo horn to tight and it was rubbing on the top of the servo therefore rubbing on the servo giving the inconsistency and burnout in the servo. put on a new servo horn and cleaned all the steering, put new bearings in and it all seems ok now. Thanks for all the input and I will keep it all in mind if this happens again.
thanks again

Thats crazy thst the 1267/68 give up. i have 2 cars 1 with radiopost 5005s with lipo and 1 car with savox 1258 on a life pack. never noticed a difference, and never had a problem with either.

I've run 1268s all prev season long as steering servos on both buggies w/o problems. Of course my EPA was close to normal=) Highly doubt any servo will last pushing c-hub/whatever into arm on a regular basis.
