After reading your post I had to go look at mine. At full compression I don't get any binding at the outdrive. I know the front universals are a little longer, could you have switched them?

Thanks Shane

No I have the correct rear ones in the rear.
so you have no marks on the unis just back from the pin where it has touched the outdrive from a big up compression of the shock?
Have a look you will see what I mean.

I do see a faint mark but nothing that looks to be damaging the axle. I took a pic but it's hard to see the marks.

When you had the rear universals break, where did they break? Any pics?

No pics on hand of the broken ones but its alway on that same spot where the bevel of the outdrive stops, you can see in my pic i've ground that edge back some.

Yeah it looks like if you basically just shorten the end of the outdrive by about 1 or 2mm you should be ok. I checked on my mbx7tr and it doesn't seem to be as much of a problem.

I don't want to be a dumba$%, but I read through here pretty thoroughly and don't recall seeing this car having issues with the universals binding and breaking .... Is this something pretty common if you use full droop a lot , or bumpy track / big jump kind of stuff ?

Where is your droop set? 119 is common, I don't run more than that.. Only axle break I had was years ago when I use to run worn out drives. Pretty sure it's your droop

My droop is set correct, it's at full compression on a hard 1 rear wheel landing that it contacts the outdrive... thats good if no one else has broken any unis, ive done 3 since i've had the 7R, with this easy mod im not seeing any marks on the unis now.

Kinda puzzling, expensive part to replace 3 times

I just went through the front end of the used car I got and one front shaft is bowed , the other is fine , but both are scarred up from the outdrives. The guy wasn't using the droop screws and I'm 97% sure that why they're torn up. The only other car I had outdrive issues with tore them up when there was too much droop and the shafts would contact the outdrives during crashes. I think that's what's going on here , not bad landings .

The rears were fine , and the droop was set right .
