Carbon Fiber Starter Box
I am looking for a tricked out carbon fiber starter box; not a vinyl wrapped box. I think Cody King has a carbon fiber top plate for his box.
A Google search didn't turn anything up for me. Does anyone know a place that can do them? Thanks! |
Sounds like a custom deal. Has me intreged.

Sounds hella cool. It would have to be metal carbon combo though because I don't think Carbon can be bent or be molded bent.
|
Carbon can be molded into just about any shape. RC carbon parts are just flat because it's cheaper for manufacturers to buy bulk carbon sheets and mill/cut parts out of it with the push of a button... Versus building custom mold jigs, buying materials, having a kiln to bake, paying workers to layer, resin, vacuum, bake, etc.
To pay a shop to make just a one-piece, five-sided bottom box for a starter would probably run well over several hundred bucks. |
carbon fiber is made and laid pretty much just like fiberglass. Ive seen buggy bodies made of carbon fiber.

The HK box is cool looking, but as Frank mentioned, not CF.
I have it on good authority that CK has a CF lid that was done for him by some folks out in So Cal. I wonder if one of those CF kits you can by would work? I guess f I could make a mold of the box and lid it would.....hmmmmm.... |

I have always been more of a lurker on this site, but this looks like a good opportunity for a first post.
These guys are bulk carbon fiber dealers. I found it one night when I was researching what I would need to make CF furniture. If somebody was interested in building a CF starter box, this would be the place to start. A first effort will probably require some aluminum pieces, but its worth a go. I cant post a URL yet, but the company is called Dragon Plate. |

Thanks Dave! |
Wow that stuff's not cheap, a 1/8" sheet that 1ft square is $65.50 that would be one expensive starter box, and that's just a flat sheet, if you need it CNC'd and drilled even more.
|
Dan you might try a local Orthotics and Prosthetics shop. They will be
vacuforming carbon for the limb sockets. You might have to make them the mold. |
$900 starter box :D
|
How many people would legitimately be interested in a $250-300 starter box?
