scratch build buggy
 

I started looking for a project that would be fun that my nephew and I could do together. In my research I came across several brands that cross reference each other. They are redcat, exceed, hsp, and himoto. I also seen how inexpensive the parts are. We have so far purchased the pan to build on. it is the hsp 02001. It's gonna take several months to complete this is my first scratch build. I would appreciate any feedback I get as far as upgrade parts and locations.

It's not worth it, by the time you are done, you could have just bought a true race buggy kit.

Yes I know this but it is a bonding project. That he can keep and he will have more respect for it than if he unwrapped it.

just buy a kit. You will have a much better car at the end. the exceed, hsp, himoto cars are crap compared to a mugen, losi, etc.

I understand what you are talking about. Sometime the BONDING part is what your after, not the project. But like Panda said the companies you listed are not the best. You could do the same thing with Losi, AE, Sworks etc. and have a lot better working RC. Many of times you will see other parts on a differnet brand RCs. Good luck with your project and just have fun with it.

PS: Look on Ebay there is many rc chopshops selling stuff for cheap.

A real race kit takes a while to put together so you can bond with that.. And then you can go race it and have tons of fun and bond even more!

We are not building this to race, just building it so he can learn to drive and just run on the dirt lot out back. If he wants to race I will get a car he can race probably ofna or team associated

If you are not racing, it also comes down to money. For the same, or close to, you could get a very nice kit, from a larger manufacturer.
