Default Locked servo saver?

Hey why are guys locking there servo savers? can't this bend a lot of parts and be a big risk? I don't kill my car with wrecks I run a hitec 7950th on 7.4v but I still like some give in the steering as a cushion! I know it makes the steering more precise but the saver will not work most of the time anyway? Some opinions please!

I locked mine at the last meeting we ran on my truggy. It was the nationals final and the track had such a high grip groove the wheels just wouldnt stay locked. I wouldnt normally do it but there really wasnt much else I could do
