Default XT9 Build

Today, Aaron started the build. Overall we're very impressed with the quality of the XRAY plastic components after having both Losi and Mugen Buggies previously.

One thing I was a bit surprised at, was the optional diff shims XY962130 don't fit over the diff outdrives I didn't want to dis-assemble the diff in order to shim the gears, so decided to order the optional shims.
There is a simple way to remedy this issue however, just snip the the shim with a set of sidecutters and spread it open to fit the shims If you need to use more than one, make sure you spread the 'cuts' 180degs away from each other and take care when fitting the gearcase half.

Also, it was blind luck that the front gearcase was fitted to the front, and the rear to the rear, I thought they were identical parts on initial inspection!

I was concerned that my Orion 1900mah Nimh Rx pack wouldn't fit in the battery box and it was very close! Even the smaller Life packs we used in the Mugen Buggy were a tight fit length ways. With a bit of 'cutting' the Nimh fits neatly and has room for a bit of foam top and bottom too. We'll see how the servo wires get routed yet, still have to think about that a bit.

I've always snipped the shims.
The manual asks you to put shims on the case and spur before the bearing. Its a pain in the...

I grind a little section out of the radio tray on the inside of the throttle servo to run the steering servo cable through. I used to run it under the battery box but got a rock stuck on the cable and cut a core.
I'll show you what I mean in tassie

I'm having a 'hair-tearing' moment with the servo installation, which way around does the throttle servo go? The instructions contradict themselves on two different pages!

Yeah I started out that way but switched it around the other way so the brakes pull square and even, less strain on the servo, I know a couple of guys running this way round now.

Started out this way and you can see the angle that the servo has to pull at
