Hi AmpsgasssnvoltZ,
Lightened front and rear center shafts, this is possible but it's hard to win some grammes on these parts.
Lightened center spur gear, it is done with the plastic one. I'm a electric driver so I can use it, not the same for the nitro drivers, I agree.
Lighter and smaller diffs, I'm working on it :
You will find soon this :
www.sylveris-rc.fr

This will be available for the 3 differentials of electric RC8s but only for front and rear for the nitro ones.
You said you swapped the stock helical gears for straight cut gears, can you tell us how you did the mod ?
Thanks
Bye !

Hi KOULLIT and to those who would like to try the straight cut gear mod
I just replaced the associated diff with:
XRAY 808 diff not just the ring (43 tooth) gear but the whole diff assembly
part number 355001 for the normal diff
part number 355102 for the active diff (I can't remember if it has the 43 tooth or 41 tooth)
XRAY 808 pinion (10 tooth) part number 355108
I haven't tried to run it yet, it was raining the whole weekend here in Italy.
rc8 overall diff diameter is 38 mm
808 overall diff diameter is 39.2 mm
I tried to turn the diff and it spun freely, no grinding sound from the chassis.
I personally prefer to trim at least 0.2-0.5mm even up to 1.0mm just to be sure.

Hi AmpsgasssnvoltZ,
It's true that some 10 tooth pinions have the same design about the bearings mount, so it's possible to do that.
But it a new information for me that the XR808 diffs fit the RC8 gearboxes.
I don't really know if the straight cut gear is better than the helicoidal one.
In my opinion, the pinion like the X808 make more noises and vibrations compare to the helicoidal one, but maybe I'm wrong.
Please tell us what do you think of the mod during tests.
Hope you will have a sunny day soon, here in France, it's the same : rain, rain, rain...

I bought the rc8 cheap from a friend (50€ for 2 cars).
While cleaning and inspecting parts, I noticed that the diffs were heavy.
Having 3 xray cars lying around, I decided to try and fit 808 diffs which were lighter by comparison.
It was just coincidence since that it fits in rc8 bulkheads.
Like you I am hoping for a sunny European weekend.
Can't wait to try it out.
P.S. just bookmarked your page.

I think you have to try
Going to straight cut gears in my mbx6 was a awesome experances
But if doing so you have to rethink the oils
Maybe try X-ray set ups not rc8 ones

Im still running an old school RC8 that's been slowly updated but now to get it to the level of FT RC8.2e, I might as well buy a new kit FT RC8.2e. Do you guys think I should wait it out till they drop an FT RC8.3e? I keep checking this forum as well as AE site : ( I am ready for a new buggy pretty soon.

The new AE car will be nothing like the 8.2, its a all new platform built from the ground up. Josh Alton has spent allot of hard work and time putting into this new car along with other AE members. It will be a great car for sure.! Just have to wait till late March or April.
