starter box question

I know $s lipo is the way to go with the ofna truggy box, but it seems my box becomes a community box for starting r/c's. So this is the reason I want to stay with 7.2 packs. I'm looking for the best 7.2 sticks out there for a starter box and what other connections besides tamiya can i use

You can get a 4S lipo w/ a boatload of mAh - >6000. That will last all day and then some. I know you want nimh and nicd, but once you switch to lipo... You won't go back.

+1
I started 2 cars on each box through the quals and then we switched boxes for the main but the 4s only took 400-600 mah when I recharged them. So a 5-6000+ 4s would start as many cars as you wanted all day long.

The reason I was asking about nimh is because I heard lipo cant be used constantly. My box ends up starting at least 4 sometimes five truggies. If this isnt true which lipo do u guys recommend

get a small car batery, charge it the night before...and you wont have to charge it for a month almost. we have the same thing in our group...community boxes lol. we run 4 boxes of one car batery sometimes...no special wiring needed either....just make an extension with some lugs on the one end or crocodile clamps. we all use the ofna dual motor truggy box fyi

I run an old 5000 4s pack and will start my car for weekends without a charge if needed, but I always charge before a race day.

This is the route I would go. Switch everything over to deans connectors. 6000mah lipo will last FOREVER! I charge my 2000mah every 3 Weeks and it only takes 400.

I have a Zippy 5800mah 4s battery in mine. I also use the OFNA glow driver and have it preset inside my starter box.

I can start every car at your track, for every heat, for a month without recharging.

I'm actually thinking about adding two more 5800 lipos because I have them sitting around collecting dust. I like a concrete heavy non-tippy box, I though about adding a steel weight, but batteries are free since I allready have them. Could go for a year straight! I use Deans plugs on all of them.

Maybe its just me, but I dont mind if somone uses my box in the heat of the moment, but I wont let people "depend" on my box all the time..... they should be made to get their own....... just sayin.

I use the ofna chrome top starter box, I use a 3s 4000 mah lipo in mine. I start three cars at the track all day long, no problem. I have been starting cars for three weeks now since race day, still have not charged the lipo, still starts em no problem. I will charge before I go to the track this comming sat. and I am sure I will have used less than half the batteries capacity over four weeks time and a bazillion bumps! I always unplug the lipo when the box is sitting so it does not discharge. Lipo's rock in the starter box! It's also nice that the starter box is light as a feather with the lipo in there.

Why don't all these racers have their own box? Kinda newbish, don't ya think.

Do y'all run the same model chassis or something? Noone elses car will fit my box anyways. I'm the only driver running an Xray XB9.

rceefreak 06-28-2012 10:35 AM

we all run mugen truggies.

Frank L 06-28-2012 11:32 AM

Zippy lipos are the most economical.

For the record, 2 really good 7.2 packs at 5000-6000 MAH each will be redonkoulously expensive! ..1 good Zippy or similar cheap Lipo can be found for $40-$50

Bit off topic

Can anyone tell me if a 4s lipo will into a Hudy starterbox? Its looks quite tight on space in there.

Yeh mate , no probs , just check the length of the battery before buying . I use a little 2200 25C and velcro it in their , less than 1000 mah back in it after 3 days of racing ......;)
