powder coating buggy chassis

Has anyone tried powder coating there chassis of there 1/8th scale buggys?

It would add weight and crack from the flex...i wouldnt recommend it. But cant ever hurt to try i guess.

i could see maybe doing a shelf queen, but not a car your still running, you've seen a new chassis after a day of practice, looks a year old lol!

One guy in our club had a Revo chassis powder coated yellow. Looked and lasted OK.

never had a revo, but i'm guessing revos don't bottom out like 1/8 buggies......for a chassis that hardly ever touches the ground i say go for it!!

i have had a 1/8 buggy chassis powder coated and i even had one ceramic coated. they wore off in 1/2 day of racing.

In motocross, powdercoating wasnt used on the rims because they flex and cause the powdercoating to crack and chip off, not only that, but its heavy. Anodizing is the way to go.

lol yeah i figured it would, i dought there's anything that will stay on a 1/8 buggy chassis!!

Anodizing is the way to go

Weird. My bike has 13" of travel and the shock springs are powdercoated with no issues whatsoever. Perhaps there is a different dynamic in place on a rim but powdercoating can take flex.

Re cutting all the countersinks and hoping the powdercoating is the same thickness anywhere two parts were bolted together would be my main concern, and the weight it would add.

not to step on anyones toes, but it's strange that some of ya's say powder coating would rub off or crack. powder coating is very flexible, and resists sand paper. that's what they coat some coil springs with, because regular paint would crack.

now i've never coated an rc chassis with it, so i don't really know what would happen. i do know that when i worked at a paint shop, i messed a part up and had too sand it off. it was extremely hard to do. much tougher than even industial polyurethane epoxy paint.

now keep in mind (if you choose to powder coat), if it "does" chip, it'll prob start to peel off. it doesn't bond to a surface like wet paint does. it incases the part in thin flexible shell. this is why ya'd have to coat the top of the chassis too. you must have complete coverage of the part. make sure you plug all of the holes, or youre gonna have to drill them out. that would be a real pain, cause of all the different hole sizes.

that all being said, i personally would only coat a shelf queens chassis (due to the risk of peeling)... like the guy up top said.
