It's far cheaper to just pony up the $1500. Or just stay in stock Slash class. 1/8th scale ain't for beginners. Start in a different class if your on a budget.

Our park service at the track has to empty the 50 gallon garbage cans twice a week because of all the CEN, AE, Thunder tiger, OFNA, and Hobo cars that pile up in there.

My AE RC8 rtr was far more expensive in the long run than my current Xray cars with handpicked servos/engines/pipes etc. etc.

I've seen several of the Losi RTRs do well and it's the only RTR worth buying.
It comes with a quality radio, a good motor that makes plenty of power, a good starter box, and it's all in a very familiar platform to racers. There will be people at the track who can help you with your setup and whatever else, it's a known car.
Only things I'd suggest right away are servos and the aluminum shock caps.
You'll be lucky if the servos last long enough to break in the motor and you will break one of the plastic shock caps ending your day of fun.

I'm probably the biggest Losi hater on this website and would much rather see you, or anyone, buy anything other than a Losi. However, if you're dead set on a RTR, it is the best one available.

Also don't be afraid to buy used. I've bought a few used kits off of here before and got some great deals. Just know what you're looking at before you buy it. I'd bet you can find a nice Xray 808 2011 spec cheap right now. Heck, I have one in excellent condition I may sell.
