Default My new body cutter!!!!

As far back as i can remember I've always hated cutting bodies. Trying to get around the edges with those curved scissors really didn't make it any better.

I found something that works so easy I have to share it.
I've had this dremel bit for a while and last week i noticed how well it cut plastic while modding my battery box. I decided to use it to cut out my jc 2.0 losi body.

It was like butter. I had the dremel on it lowest speed and it was smooth and easy to control. I cut the body out in one smooth piece in a little over 5 minutes. It cut so well all I have to do is a little sanding and its done.

Here are a few pics.

Nice, I might have to try that one. Ive been using the rotozip bit on bodies for a while now. Its the one that looks like a backwards drill bit.

Do you have a part number for that bit?

You can actually use an Xacto knife to achieve the same results using the score and snap method :-) A little more difficult, but same end result really.

Score and snap is awesome, a whole lot less mess also.

I just get the bulk off with the dremel then use a sanding drum to smooth it all out.

It's actually pretty easy to keep the line straight with the bit. I was surprised. I use the 90 degree attachment on my dremel. Once the but starts moving let it eat. Don't force it and it almost feels it guide itself.
I cut so slightly beneath the line and when I'm finished I touch up the straight section with my mouse sander and touch up the curved areas with a dremel flap sander.

I have actually tried this method. The problems I had were the curves and once that razor started to go offline you end up wobbles or uneven lines. I don't have surgeon steady hands. Haha.

That "used" to be my regular technique. What I did today was far easier and makes less mess because you don't have nearly as much material to sand away.

I just finished cutting out my engine hole. So so much easier. Lined up the motor (losi body on d8t) started the bit and in one piece it cut the entire hole. Keep in mind that with the cab forward bodies you have all those angles that need to be removed for the cooling head to fit correctly.

Once it starts cutting its just that easy.

The only problem I had was trying to keep the body at the right angle so the glare would allow me to see the line.

I typically have to cut at least one body a week, (sometimes 2, depending on how much crashing goes on). I cut the first one with scissors and said never again. I have been cutting them with a dremel ever since.
