A great Chassis Protector?
 

Hey what is a good chassis protector that is really thick and wont come off in just a couple of runs on my 1/8 buggy? Thanks and any input would be great.

Most of us have tried something at one time or another to preserve the chassis of a 1/8 buggy, but none of the solutions worked better than just allowing the chassis to wear, then simply replace it. There's a teflon-type chassis protective sheet from Team Associated (http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...otective-Sheet) that works pretty well, but it's made for 1/10-scale chassis, so two sheets may be needed for 1/8 scale.

Rcrenew has some nice aluminum chassis skids and DE has some good plastic Skids.

Good question. I remember when I skated they made some sheets for railsliding like the Associated sheets but slightly thicker and larger that would probably work awesome...

A lot of effort but I used to do this for the 1/10 electic guys

Take a mould off the chassis with fibreglass. Lots of wax in the screw holes! Kiwi shoe polish is an acceptable substitute for the real stuff. You'll need about 5 layers of 200 - 300 gsm cloth

Then cut excess off the mould

Wax inside of mould well again

Lay up one layer of the lightest Kevlar you can find that is woven (but not Kevlar tissue, doesn't have enough fibre in it) with epoxy resin like West Systems 105.

Whe cured, pop it out and you have a paper thin layer that will just not wear. It is phenomenally hard wearing.

You can apply it with silicone or double sided tape to a clean chassis.

But it will cos as much as a new chassis unless it is all offcuts and you are handy with this stuff.

Chassis for me is a wear item don't run a protectors just limits performance especially skids being you can buy a new chassis from eBay for under one bill its not worth it

I spent a good hour or two cutting out some extra 3M material I had leftover from doing a clear bra on my car. Thought this would work out great. Cut it to the chassis and everything. Lasted less than a 5 min practice on track. I've come to the realization that chassis are supposed to wear, and you replace them when they do. It's a part of racing. I will never run skids or anything that sticks below the chassis as this affects the suspension up travel, and if you set your ride height to the skid to get back the up travel, then you just raised your entire ride height by the thickness of the skid. No thanks. It doesn't matter what the bottom of your chassis looks like, no one "should" ever see it :lol: unless you're having 'one of those days' at the track :D

I'm on T-Bone skids. They lasts much longer than the DE. Don't take my word for it. Try them and u will see.

WHY? it screws up the setup on a kit? have you ever seen a pro or the top a main drivers at your club race use them? NO.

Pro drivers don't run club races.

FYI, most pros used skidplates at Pattaya. There are reasons to run them.

If 2mm messes up someones setup, they are probably sponsored and don't worry about wearing out chassis.
