Hex Heads AP Screws..
 

I was wondering if anyone had tried these screws, www.Hexcrews.com . I ordered some for my D8 and D8T. Very dissappointed in what I got for the $$ spent.. In the D8 kit I recieved just baout every M3 screw you would need, but only recieved 4 (FOUR) different M4 screws.. And the quantity of each makes little or no sense.. There are No button head screws, which is fine I prefer Socket Cap heads when they will work, but I recieved 8 M3x4mm and 8 M3x6mm? I cannot think of anywhere on my 2 kits that I use an M3 that short..

I guess what I am trying to say is Steer clear of these screw kits.. I also ordered the AP Armor Plated kit which, looks to be galvanizing? I know from experience that galvanizing softens metal, so this, IMO, isn't helpful..

+1 on that...I've bought 3-4 sets of Tony's screws and they are by far one of the best out there.

go to trick-parts.com. if they dont have them on the site just email them and they will make them for you. and they great quality stainless and lifetime warranty

Stainless is the LAST thing you want for hardware. 12.9 G is where its at and Tony has provided us with that for Ohh soo many years. :nod:

What is the issue with stainless screws? Not contesting your opinion just not aware of the problem with using stainless hardware. Is it weight, do they not hold up as well??? By the way I also use the Tony Screw kits.

stainless looks good but what we have access to in these kits is much softer than what Tony Screws offers. Also look into the new company listed on this forum. They offer high grade screws with what looks to be loc-tite dipped. they come in bags of 20 and you can order what sizes you need.

As Alan said its the hardness that's the problem. A couple times in and out and the screw is Done.

One bonus to Stainless would be the No rust factor, But for Racer's who clean their cars of a Frequent basis its negligible at best.

We have looked into adding a line of grade 12.9 steel screws to our lineup as well, just depends on interest. For 1/8th scale, it's a good idea to go with the 12.9 steel screws for durability. Problem is that there are only a few spots that need that much strength, like shock mounting bolts.

I ordered 1 set from him last night. That is how dissappointed I am in the Hexcrews package.. I've had Tony's before, and I won't stray again..

All spots need the strength in the Hex head.. Which is where the failure happens on Stainless screws, vitrually everytime..

Uses 12.9 steel hardware. There are serveral places on the 1/8 where I wouldn't trust lesser screws.

I made the Stainless mistake when I first got into 1/8 years ago...soft, strips out, and even bends. It's a shame that so many people new to the hobby spend their money on these kits...the screws look awesome, but you'll be swapping back to steel in no time.

I wish I read this before I purchased Hex Heads AP screws for my 1/8 truggy.

The screws do not look as the do on the website but has anyone had a breakage or stripped head with the HH AP screws?

They are better then what my LHS has, learnt that the hard way.
