Xray XB9 kit - what engine/exhaust set up to use ? Help!!
I have just purchased my Xray XB9 kit arrived yesterday looks great!!
Just looking for some suggestions on what engine/exhaust set up to use. The track I will be racing on has both long straights and tight sections. I have been using nitros on and off for the past 5yrs so I'm not an expert however do know the basics. I have a budget of $500-$550 for the engine and exhaust.
Hope you can help.

You will need a manifold that has a tight/compact header....otherwise it wont fit properly!

The only must have is the Novarossi short compact Mugen header. You have to have something like that or your pipe will be out too far and bent stupid.
I can get the part # if you want, but I'll bet someone with the # memorized will be posting in 3...2...1...
Also don't use the pipe hanger Xray supplies. The side pods are real nice stiff plastic. Just drill a hole and use a button head screw and locknut as a pipe hanger. Google pics of Reno's car, he mounts his pipe like that and it worked well for me as well.
The OS 21XZB with a 2090 pipe and P3 plug is the easiest to tune engine I've ever done. I'd also recommend the Mugen, RB (only the Italian built RB's) and Novarossi.

Alpha A852 with 0801 pipe. (Or A872 if you want something smoother, or maybe the 2090 pipe to tame the A852 down a notch..)
Alphas are (normally) well priced, easy to tune, last long, and are very powerful. I have an Alpha-built Argus, and it is one of the best engines I've had. My next engine will likely be an A852.. Seen enough, read enough, and experienced enough with my Argus to be sold on Alpha.
If I lived in the States I'd be tempted to try a Werks, which also have a good reputation, but also are known to not have quite as much pinch as most other brands, making break-in easier. Werks are not really available here though..
But again, Alphas are very powerful, easy to tune, and affordable.. Just check out the thread..
