I will post some pics of my shop. Not ideal, but it works for now. My new house will the the "Ultimate Man Town". Can't wait til I win the lottery.
The main thing I can recommend is plenty of storage and cabinets. I am actually using a Cornwell Tool box right now in my shop that is about 10 ft. long and bench high, all the sliding drawers help me keep all the little stuff organized.
So try and put alot of drawers, shallow but deep would be nice.

Sup Speedski?
Dude, I would make sure to have plenty of bench space. I have what I call my dirty bench and then my clean bench. On the clean bench I work on engines and shocks mostly. On the dirty bench anything goes. I have a lot of cars so storing these cars was a problem space wise. I opted for large plastic shelves. One thing that I love about my work area is, I can sit at my bench and anything I need is at an arms reach. This really makes for efficient maintenance. I also found a parts cleaner that my vehicles will fit in for easy cleanup.
here are two other threads on this topic. A lot of good and bad. But maybe you can finds some things that would work for you.

Iv got a prime room now but its below ground level. one thing id consider on a rc room build is convenience of to and from track. i actually hoist everything above head and have less than 4 steps before and after i hoist to load equipment. i dont take my whole parts supply by any means but nonethess cars being used go in and out the door as much as i do.

Got to have a good wrenching room. Makes the hobby so much easier. Even tiny spaces will work like mine.

You guys are hardcore. I'm jealous. All Ive got is a 6ft pit table in my finished basement. I hope one day I can get a house with a garage so I dont have to haul my stuff up and down the stairs every time I go racing.
