Using lipos in starter box questions.
 

Hi all I asked this question in one of the threads here but I cant find it now so I'll make athread to ask.

Ive been using the reedy wolf pack Nimh's in both my starter boxes But they only just last a decent practice sesion so I want to change to LIPO's.

Is there anything I need to do to my starter boxes for them to recieve lipos.?.
like ad better connectors or thicker wire.?.
Im planning on using 2x 2s 7v's lipo and maybe a single 3s 11v.

any info would be greatly apreciated.

What boxes are you running?

I run a 4s 4000mah in all my boxes and they work great, just use the red deans plug.

Yes you need to tell us what starter box you are using.

I'm running the Ofna truggy box with the twin 775 motors. I run a 4S 5000mah Lipo and it last a minimum of 2 whole race days. The only modification I made was to get rid of the Tamiya plug and change it to Deans. I also use a Lipo alarm buzzer so I don't over discharge the battery. Has not buzzed once yet. I've been running this setup for over 6 months without a single issue.

Sorry Guys Im running a Losi8 Truggy/buggy box the blck one with TL cut out on the lid twin 775's and a
q-world 3 way box singl 775.
I use the losi Box for my truggy and the q-world for my 10th mugen mst1's.

I've been using this Zippy fm Hobby King in my Q-World stainless steel starter-box & it seems to last forever :D
I changed the plug to Dean's.

well i have the red rtr losi starter box, it HAD 1 775 motor with a 14T pinion and 2 traxxas 7.4V nimh's in it, so i bought another losi 775 motor and put it in and put a 15T novak pinion on each motor and got 2 14.8V lipo's and wired it all up and HOLE-E fark this thing would turn over a kenworth truck! how long itll last i have no idea but for now its insane hahahahaha... the only problem is that when you push the truck down to engage the starter, sometimes the 2 copper plates that engage the starter box tac together because theres so much curent going through it. hahaha but its insane!!! i did all this about 3 months ago and havent even needed to charge the batteries yet, the only time i charged them was when i got them!!!!

these are the batteries i got, VERY cheap, i know everyone will probably have something to say about cheap lipo's but they've been awesome so far.....

hi, been using these motorcycle battery (PB / lead-acid) no problems whatsoever. Just choose a size that fits your starter box. They are less than half the price of a lipo.

I will change fom the tamiya style connectors to the deans and give it a try..

I would presume everyone started off with PB before they want to change to LiPo. I did that & never look back. Those were the days when we dread carrying the starter-box around, but now it's a breeze. You'll also be surprised at the difference in extra power from LiPo, as well as it's usage duration. As a matter of fact, I paid more for my Hitachi PB. ;)

4s LiPo packs are so perfect for starter boxes, get like a 20C 3000-5000mah pack, stick some velcro on it to hold it in, and it's just beyond easy to use.

I was reminded not so long ago why Pb batteries suck, pulling one out of a friends box to check it, dead flat, let him use my LiPo pack, but his old Pb was leaking (I thought it was nitro fuel), must have wiped my hand on my shorts at some stage, now I have holes in a near new pair of shorts... :lol:

hello bro.. :) don't know why it cost much more there.. but locally a maintenance-free motorcycle battery is small enough to fit my Qworld Starter box and cost around 15USD. Just bought a new one after i replace my 2 yr old battery.. same battery... its not really "light" but really not that heavy.

I use this one in my Ofna Truggy start box.

I threw out the switch and just use a deans plug in the box. It will start ANY brand new motor from ice cold, last 3 weekends of use, charges in 15 minutes and weighs nothing.

Why anyone would still use a 12V battery from a motorcycle or alarm is beyond me. Talk about epic waste of time charging those :rolleyes:
