I have the op. to use a piece of land to build a track, how big of an area would be sufficient? Going to be mainly for 1/8 buggies both electric and nitro, but would like it to be 1/10 friendly also. I would like to do something like this.

lot size is about 2 acres, planning on doing something around 200' x 200' for the track layout. This would just be the track.

Also how wide should the lanes be? 10-12'

Not to sound mean but if you want to copy the worlds track you better go hire some boy scouts to marshal because 2 acres and crashing will blow. Doing somthing this large is hard on eletric sc/10th scale maybe even 8th scale. One of my local tracks is 150x200 (revelation raceway) and its pretty huge. If your planning on doing a private track on a piece if land thats friendlt for sc eletric/ 1/8 nitro and eletric you may want to size down quite abit. Not trying to bash u but that size will be terrible unless you were planning on a whole club race set up, with a professional built track thats maintained and has marshalls. Alot don't notice because they dont have a track for them selves but almost all tracks need maintnence after the day is over orelse the track turns horrible real quick. That will be alot of work for just a guy and a few buddies to do.

No worries, your not bashing or mean, this is why I am asking opinions.

I do have a troup of boyscouts that will be helping to run/maintain it.

The lot is 2 acres, but don't need to run that big. We may even have room to do a 1/10 and an 1/8 so just looking for suggestions.

How wide are the lanes suppose to be on 1/10 - 1/8 we were thinking 10-12' but some tracks look a lot wider.

12'-14' is minimum for 8 scale

Our track footprint is 100 x 150 and the lanes are 12 foot wide. With our current runline we are getting around 35 seconds for the fastest nitro buggy times. Think about how tall your drivers stand needs to be also if building a really big track. Put your 1/10 scale down 200 foot away and see how small it gets. There is a point of too big. An acre is just 208' x 208'. Two acres isn't very big actually. Think about pit spaces, driveways, drivers stand, pit road and electrical and water needs too. Think it all out and put it on paper before the first scoop of dirt is lifted. Good luck to you on your adventure.

My back yard track is 80x170 and is good size the 8th stuff iz good on it the sc is okay 2 except one jump which is just sillybig track is not as much up keep as some think once layout is in then just matter of keeping it watered before u run on it but does not get enough use to rutt it up

Thanks for all the replies, I am going out shortly to scout the location.

All good advice and I will keep it in mind when I get out there to start marking things off.

we have what I consider to be large for 1/10th and jut about perfect for 1/8th 115'x125' Lanes 10' in most places

And is designed for ease of marshaling as no crossing lanes to marshal.

If you are going for a more casual and just for fun track take a look at what we did. We are four guys only and we did a pretty small track so we could marchal it on our own. Take a look at the driver stand, it's only about 1.5 meter high (4-5 feet).
