The last world racing event had some tire wear issues. Are their any rules preventing a tire change during a pit. If someone practice adding a cordless drill it could be done fairly quickly.

Dump question Was watching some INDY racing last night it had me thinking.

I saw a guy a couple of weeks ago racing an RC Pro event. His pit man had a small snap on cordless impact and extra wheels. I saw them practicing changing them too but he didn't do it in the race. I think it was more of a just in case king of thing.
If we ever get to the point of having to change tires in the middle of a race, I wont be able to afford to race anymore so I don't even want to think about it. I already spend about $70 in tires per race weekend.

I have seen this a couple of times during rc racing. The problem is that if your in the top three which is separated by seconds Your gonna get lapped or lease be dead last.

+1 I would rather take the 1 at most 2 seconds slower lap times from tire were compared to 50 seconds minamum tire change.

I think it would be more for if you had a tire come unglued and the foam came out, you can change it when you pit.

I hear U I would never change tires but are their any rules saying you cannot. If I was Tebo last world it might have been a good option his tires were toast. He has the skill losing time every lap from poor tires verse A new set might have helped.

I helped chage a buddies tire in a pro series event in the a main. He was loosing to much time with the tire flapping (came unglued) and being uncontrollable that the extra spin tire on off full of fuel cost him a lap but was better than going many laps down because you cant drive the buggy.
Two guys can fill the car and change a tire in less than 30 sec or less than a lap. It doesnt happen to often but when it does its alot of team work between the two pit guys and then the driver keeping his cool while he waits.

Ryan Cavalieri changed his rear left tire twice during the Nitro Challenge A main, so its perfectly legal but you do get left in the dust ( as did he)

Last time I saw a tire change done was back in the days of 1/10th gas truck. Which was a pretty long time ago. It was only a two tire change, so the time lost wasn't like it might be for a four tire swap. The tire change did work. When all the other racers had bald rear tires, the one racer that did the tire change was on faster/better tires and it showed. I believe that the race was down in Vegas and it was Kinwald that did the tire change during an hour long main. I could be wrong though. It's not usually done, but I don't think there are any rules saying you can't do it.

I have always thought of ways to come up with a way for a quick change like they have for 1/10. If someone comes up with that, could you imagine how much more of an advantage the pros will have that have tire sponsors. And how much more money we will be spending to keep up. And dont say you wouldnt do it.

I'm sure there could be a way to adopt the QC setup from 1/8th onroad to offroad,

And yes, I would so do it. LOL. The only issue would be the retooling of the the wheels for all Mfg.'s to go with to do so.

Last worlds track also had concrete spots in certain sections. Bald tires within 20min of that hour long main.

That's why I asked the question it would be ans advantage for hard core abrasive tracks like the last worlds but timing is Key needs to be fast.

I believe the ROAR and IFMAR rules require a threaded nut to fasten the wheel on for 8th scale offroad. I have seen and used 10th scale type quick release hubs for 8th scale.
