Driving a nitro buggy
 

Just picked up a RC8B from the forum here. I have never driven a 1/8 buggy before. Last ngiht I went out and ran about a tank through it. Had some help from the local guys. Night and day from the SC10

I know the obvious answer is to drive it, but for the next several weeks I will be slammed with very little time to get to the track

the problem is driving my 2wd electric is so engrained in my brain, Im doing all the wrong things with the buggy.


I noticed hitting the brakes and steering around the turns doesnt work so well, I almost have to mash the brakes then floor it around the turns to swing it around.


just looking for basic tips, the major differences in driving a 4wd buggy vs 2wd truck. What not to do etc.


also, I noticed it spun around very easily, like my SC10. is this because the front diff oil is too light? seemed almost like most of the powder/traction was in the rear.

Rebuild it and makes sure nothing is binding for starters. Go to a smoother clutch by using 0.9mm springs to make it easier to control on acceleration. Play with the brake settings. Generally having more rear brake will give you more steering into the corner.

Do some reading in the AE thread, I'm sure you will learn even more about this buggy.;)

Man, once you get the hang of it, running 2wd and going 4wd is night and day. After you get the set-up down, it's like driving on rails.

it seems like this car was setup for a small tight track, which mine is not.

the manual was included, I may just tear it down and set it up how I want

Put the right tires on it. Then point and shoot!!!

I would rebuild and put a starting setup on it, Associated is great for that since there are lots of setups available.

Once you rebuild with a decent setup, then you can start to play and change things... but it's hard to tell which way is up when you don't know where you started.

IMHO - Generally you should be able to set the car up to drive however you like. Smooth electric throttle fingers probably will be an asset as well.
