Track boundary help?
 

Hey guys, I'm looking to build a first rate 1/8th scale practice track ( no back yard basher track) at my place and am in search of a somewhat reasonably priced tubing for the track boundary. I have found 4" vac tube that seems to be the best route for flexability (car wont explode on impact) and durabilty (car impact and winter season) but is $4.00 a foot. Maybe that isnt a bad price. If you guys have any ideas or know of something better let me know. Thanks in advance.

@ my local lowes it was on sale $28 a roll! We bought 12 rolls for our track.:D

Look/ask to see if the yellow tubing is available. It makes a difference, it's more visible......................you end up not hitting it as much.

Also look around at your local concrete companies. They may have old rolls of
rubber conveyer belt that you can sink into the ground at certain spots ( end of straights etc) to give you a higher barrier to maximize safety for run offs. We got rolls of it for free. It was 3' wide and about 3/8" thick. We buried it about 1' into the ground (2' above) and it worked perfect and was 100% weather proof.

Vehicles will hit it and get sucked in, but not damaged by it.

Where can i get that stuff or who makes??

The colours are probably different in the US than they are in the UK but they will be the same stuff which is underground ducting.

In the UK the colours are for different things

Black - drainage
purple- street lighting
orange - cables (i think)

The Orange one is twin walled and much stronger .... We were using the black stuff but the sun just makes it brittle and then its starts to crack and break . Weve just switched to the orange stuff . To do our track it cost £500 which is around $750

They can be bought at a builders merchant .

Catch 22 how much $ in outdoor carpet is on that track? Here in the states it goes for $5/linear ft.

Pin2win, that stuff is way cheap. $36 bones a roll at my nearest lowes. As moto said yellow or brighter color would be nice but I think price would perhaps jump back up. I will do some digging on that though.

Pin2win, does this tube stay pliable and withstand cracking from weather or impact?

1/8 scales tear it up after repeated abuse. I have not found the weather to affect it much. If you wanted long lasting you could put 4" pvc pipe but its pricey!

Yeah abit too pricey and tough to arrange Im sure. At $36 a roll you can afford to patch in bad sections. I'm liking this stuff.

That track is absolutely beautiful. I would love to try out astrotrurf. Cars must stay clean.

That is 3" white PVC pipe, its harder, lasts much longer, and looks better than the corrugated pipe.

That's what I thought but that stuff is $4.99 a ft. real expensive!!
