A Brand New Losi 8ight 2.0 rtr racer can be had for under $600 NEW shipped, and it includes a very good .21 engine, excellent DX3S 2.4gig radio, very good starter box AND a 1400mah rx reciever battery. The only thing needed is fuel.

Taxman, with your expierience you had previously with rc's and the budget you have you'll deffinetly get a nice racer for yourself and son. For sure keep your eye out in the SALE-TRADE section here for some great deals.

You can get a Traxxas Slash 4x4 Ultimate(which includes a 2.4gig radio, 7c nimh battery and charger) for about $425 shipped new. Just to give you a baseline.

I also bought my truggy used and saved a ton of cash (paid $120 for roller). Plus I got a truckload of spare parts with it. Then got slightly used LRP .28 + pipe for $80 from a racer who quit the hobby and took the electronics from my Savage monstertruck. When you are not sure you like the hobby yet, then buying used is a great way to try it out without losing money.

Yep Taxman picked up 2 great rides, and some top shelf support equipment to go with em. He and his son will have a BLAST.
