In my center diff when i pulled it down the oil was 4k weight and it looked greyish black.

is this burned up?

as i dont see how dirt could get in to discolor it.

D8 buggy been running on low traction track with fairly high power motor.

The xray setup book says that its posible to cook centre diff oil if too thin, was wondering if i have done this hence the color.

It's time for some fresh diff oil. The coloring is actually metallic particles worn off of the internal diff gears. Double check your internal diff gears, clean and re fill the diff. you should be ok.

burnt is more black than grey... but its normal after a few runs... what oil do you use? ive tried almost all oils and i found the mugen oil last far longer than other oils, granted it cost more but over time it will cost you less... i was changing AE oil every 1-2 races and it was greyish and thinning and then i finally broke down and bought mugen oil, ran 4 races, opened up the diff, still clear just like new. wont run another oil anymore... my dad is using up the AE and other oils we had and he has been through a few bottles and i havent even been through half a bottle yet.

Mugen oils wear out like all others (I do run them btw)... there's only a handful of factory in the world that do silicon oils, so they all come out of the same cuves

Low traction + low diff weight = diffing out = faster delamination + heat = oil change needed more often

Change oils every half gallon or so

i would try ofna diff oil even the lower weight ive used seem to last longer than most before it turned black and it comes in a big bottle

losi diff oil is good also seems constant to me when i used it .

associated diff oil is ok but i did have to change it quicker than most even with 10,000 wt but it is cheap though .

now i do run on a dry dusty track .

I have run Losi diff oils for awhile and had them discolor once in awhile but recently I started using kyosho diff oil as the Losi tubes started coming 1/2 size. I think diff oil is diff oil find one that you like and stick with it.
