Diff oil & grease cleaner help

What can i use to clean all the diff oil/grease of the gear box and gears. I try to brush it off with dish soap and simple green. It didnt work. The brush was full of grease/oil and i had to throw it away because it got worst. Can someone tell me what can i use to clean off the grease and diff oil?

used in a bath of Naptha, which can be found at your local home improvement store in the paint dpt... DIALED!

+1 on Naptha, look in the paint section at home depot. Works great on diff oil/grease.

I'll have to try the Naptha. I've always used denatured alcohol and a stiff toothbrush. Was a little aggravating, but it works

Nuthin better than a Naptha teabag. Set it in the bath, maybe shake it up a little, let it set for 5 mins, comes out cleaner than new :)

naptha is the only way to go to clean your diffs...

Naphtha is also known as camp fuel. If you can't find it in the paint section, check the camping stoves section. Kills silicone diff oils very quickly. I usually take the bearings off the diff and drop the diff case in the naphtha, use the teabag thing for the gears and cross pins.

is it true naptha can swell some diff housings?

AZRC4Me 02-28-2011 11:35 PM

get one of these:

http://www.harborfreight.com/catalog...elry%20cleaner

then fill it with some of this on a 2:1 ratio w/ filtered water:

http://www.greased-lightning.com/op_multipurpose.html

you can get a nice big jug of it at lowe's or home depot for like $7-8, lasts forever. I throw everything in the ultrasonic, bearings, diff cases, gears, etc. Sometimes I mix in some simple green, greased lightning and a little water. Air compressor for the excess, then good as new.

Do not use it on o rings or other rubber items.
Since some plastics are made different use caution I've used it on my xray diff housing and it came out ok.
