You have a lot of options, but depends on your budget. I say Losi 8 2.0 is the best deal if you wanna save some money. You can also find a nice used buggy here on RCTECH and with the money you save you can buy some good servos.

Any of the top name brand's will be good. Check what people at your track race and what your hobbyshop supports. This will be your best choice.

New to RCTech but not to forums by any means..
Anyway.. I just purchased my 1st 4wd nitro buggy... To date myself.. Years ago I bought the 1st gold tub RC10 at our LHS in my home town..

Long story short...For X-mas this year.. we purchased me a Savage X 4.6 RTR & my 9 year old step-son a brushless Slash 4x4.. went to the local track & my truck is too big & too fast as we only really have SCT here.. So I bought i BRAND NEW (used it was never started) OFNA Hyper 7 TQ black.. After busing my knuckles getting it started & still fighting it for tuning (it's a little more sensitive than my Savage) I am VERY impressed with this RTR car for the $200 I spent on it.. I have read through all the forums & said these are only good for bashing.. but it has everything I was looking for to have fun with my step-son at the local track..

I will be buying a roller here shortly.. & start building a "race" buggy.. but for the $200 I spent.. I will "RE" learn how to race while building a kick a$$ buggy for later.. then when he is ready (or even wants to) he can learn on the "POS"(as many have said about it?) Hyper TQ.. Myself, I give it 2 big thumbs up for a perfectly able, trackable buggy...

If you dont have price range then get what you like, there is no best. I prefer to get what the lhs carries in parts and whats popular at the local tracks so you have help with set up etc.

I usually just buy whatever I think looks the coolest. I know I won't be the fastest, so I might as well look awesome.

+1 on this one, this way you've got others who can also assist you with setup, etc.

Go to the track and find out what some of the better drivers are running locally. There is a lot to learn and it helps to have people to show you how the buggy will change with different setups. Any of the big name buggies will be competitive, the rest is about knowing how to setup for the track conditions and driving. Corner marshals are slow, so don't wreck! Slow is fast, just stay in the line!
