Lipo's?
Hi guys, a bit of advise please. Other than the obvious advantages such as lighter, runs longer etc. What are the other reasons for running a Lipo in my buggy and truggy receiver? I currently run a NiMH hump pack but thinking of going Lipo.
Cheers.

If your reciever and servo's can handle the extra voltage without a regulator they will have way more speed and torque, if you have to run a regulator the only advantage is the weight and run time. If you have to run a regulator LiFe may be a better option to consider as you will get the runtime with no regulator. Just another option to consider.

Lipos are pretty cheap nowadays.
More Power. (Isn't that what everyone dreams of?)

I run NiMh for my receiver packs but this year I'll go with LiFe because they don't need regulator to work with my servos. AE has new LiFe pack and I've ordered four of them.

Charger cable below connects white wire back to center tap of balance connector. The other 2 leads of a 2S LiPo balance connector are the positive and negative leads of the power cable. The 2S LiPo is unique in it's wiring configuration to be able to do this (just as you do not need a balance connector for 1S LiPo batteries).
This setup removes some clutter from the battery box and allows a single connection to connect to the charger like the NiMh setup.
This has worked well for 2+ gallons. Battery in this photo is a Common Sense 1700mAh. I have also modified the Robotronic 1500 mAh battery (a slightly smaller and lighter battery).
Below are the 2 LiPo batteries referenced above (Common Sense on top):

Ive ran these packs for the last 2+ year's and wont run any Big 2000mah+ packs anymore, I just dont see the need for it.

And I hear ya. Of my 2 LiPo's, I use a fraction of the capacity even with 30 minute main events. Thought about getting some of the 900mAh packs because of the size restraints of the D8 battery box. Had the 2 packs I ended up using not been available, I would have tried a 900mAh pack.
Doubtful I'll ever run in a main event for more than 30 minutes, but went with the "just in case" factor with pursuing the higher capacity LiPo's. In hind sight, the Robotronic is the best bang for the buck in terms of size and capacity. They're just not always easily available.

The links show the items not available on eBay anymore, but I think I've seen these on eBay before. From Hong Kong right?

I'm curious about something.
I seem to recall reading somewhere that while certain servos are designed to handle the high voltage of the lipos, that the higher voltage does take its toll over time in the form of shorter servo life expectancy. Can anyone confirm or deny this?
