losi tool sizes.. SAE, metric?

reason i ask, i have both.. mix matched, and well, its confusing.

the 2 main sizes i use, 3/32, and 5/64.

but, am i supposed to use metric? i think 2mm is 5/64, or maybe its 3/32. i dunno.

i have a 8T 2.0, and i want to find a set that is specific to my truck. not carrying around 12 drivers, and never knowing if its going to fit or not.

the confusing is the brake cam linkages. sometimes .05, and sometimes 1/16 i think..

so is the .05 metric, and the 1/16 american?

.050, 1/16, 5/64, 3/32. Everything on the vehicle.

i pulled this out of the manual...

is it saying, those 4 sizes are hex drivers required for the kit, or those are the required nut drivers needed?

i need to know hex drivers most importantly.

Nut drivers are optional. But they are 5.5mm and 7.0mm i am pretty sure.

if your saying 5.5 and 7... what the hell are those 4 odd ball sizes for?

hambone 11-25-2010 11:38 PM

Everything on a losi is sae. The .05 you ask about is .050". Fifty thousandths of an inch. Only thing metric will be on the engine, not the vehicle.

motomatt 11-25-2010 11:40 PM

I don't know if Losi is metric or fractional.

but........................1mm = almost exactly 0.040"

1/16" = 0.0625" ...close to 1.5mm
5/64" = 0.0781" ...close to 2.0mm
3/32" = 0.0937" ...a loose 2.5mm
1/8" = 0.125" ...a tight 3.0mm

Geez. 5 replies while I was typing..........

cool, thanks for the help guys. these are the 4 wrenches i'll be sure to have in my box. along with a ball 3/32. makes unmounting the motor with the quick change mount alot easier.

hambone 11-25-2010 11:53 PM

Yep that's all you need. Ball link on carb is metric, clutchbell retaining screw is 2mm hex. Can't remember ball link size.

ball link must be the 1.5mm. its the red handle, the only odd ball.. so thats the mix up.

the clutch bell is my 5/64th.

so, 5 really. those 4 SAE's.. and the 1.5mm.

Actually the cluthbell is 2mm. Slightly bigger than 5/64. You can use 5/64 but it'll strip.

Yeah get the 4 SAEs, 2mm and 1.5mm. I think the shock nuts and camber link nuts will need a 1/4 in nut driver. A small open end wrench works better for the camber links.

not sure.. maybe its my hex driver.. buy my 5/64 integy wrench is SNUGG! i use the same for the pipe set screw.. all the silver pan screws underneath, and most of my shock tower hardware, and diff's.. not gunna buy an extra wrench if i don't have to. :sneaky:

The 5.5mm and 7.0mm are for the NUTS. The 4 odd ball sizes are for the car only.

5/64 is near Identical to a 2mm and i honestly prefer a 5/64 over a 2mm on most metric hardware.
