I have the opportunity to buy one of these truggies secondhand as a first nitro vehicle, plenty of experience with electric on road. Is this a good vehicle to buy or are parts becoming hard to get??

Thanks in advance..

HI Stu
I take it you are from New Zealand?
Zoom resources have most parts in stock and the serpent truck is pretty tough so you shouldn't have any issues with anything.

Full parts availability as the truck is still in current production. Its a great truck and one of the toughest (if not the toughest) truck on the market. I've never broken anything on mine and I race on an extremely hard/rough track.

Looking at buying one for my collection. How well does it hold up to the newer 2017+ truggies? Going to throw a Nova .25 in there. Should I buy a Tekno or Durango instead? A lot of the guys at the track run serpent, AE, and Losi.

I love my Spyder SRX-2 HM TEAM.

I'm running my 811-TE Truggy against latest Teknos locally here and remaining competitive. The Serpent is an absolute tank and extremely durable. It jumps very well and Handles the really rough track we have here well. Give the Serpent truck a go I really think you'll like it!!

The build went well. I'm having an issue with that engine at the moment... the collet is too long for the stock 4-shoe clutch to fit all the way on. Does anybody know what collet I can purchase so it will fit properly? I've found a few threads on the issue but no one has mentioned what collet to buy.

I use either the standard novarossi collet with the GT crankshaft spacer (600587) or a Serpent brass collet (6503).

Would that brass collet fix this issue?

That's pretty normal. What you need to do is use on the screw is a couple 3x5mm shims to fill the gap or use the losi clutch washer that is stepped.

Sorry, should've explained a little more. That picture is with no shims whatsoever. If I even give the screw a little bit of pressure, at all, the clutch bell bins up and won't spin. I need about 2mm to fit it correctly, which is the first picture of the flywheel and collet. The flywheel won't go all the way on the collet. I've put shims on each side of the clutch bell and no matter how many or little I use, it binds up with no play in it whatsoever. Which is why I said the collet is too long or too thick, and I need to grab another one. I think I'm going to buy the serpent one and see what happens.

I know exactly what you are saying. You need some 3x5 shims to go in the bearing around the screw or the losi clutch washer. That's the right collet you have.

I use the GT crankshaft spacer instead of the shims on my Serpent clutches. The brass collet also allows the flywheel to sit closer to the engine. There are a few options for you to try and decide which one is best for you.
