Default starter box(build a battery)?

hi all, quick question, i have tons of nicd batterys laying around, was wondering if it was possible to build them into a starter box battery? like put 3 together to get 18volts? i already have lipos, but just looking for a use for all the nicads. will it work?

Yes, it will.

Runtime might suck, but it will produce the correct voltage. Use a 100Watt iron or greater to not cook the cells when soldering them.

Why would you want to use something that is going to fail and do it quickly?

$ for $ Buy yourself a 2200+ 4 cell lipo and forget about a Super Heavy Nicad set-up...imo it'll be more hassle then its worth.

If you plan to use Ni-Cd, I think you better use dry cell as Ni-Cd self discharge is fast and you need to charge it every time you plan to go track....Dry cell I think can last you 1 month with a 1 full charge and this is what I like.....

the nicd isn't going to last. sure you can recharge it constantly, but you won't get the run time you will get compared to lipo. you can get a bad ass lipo for 20-30 bucks.

i understand you have these nicd's laying around, but you might get 8-10 bumps out of it, when im getting 50+ bumps out of my single 3S lipo. and its seriously the size of a king size snicker bar.

i can't remember the last time i charged it. your nicds, your going to have to charge them the night before, they're going to self discharge over night. so before you go race, your going to have to slow charge them the night before.. what a hassle.

the nicds, are times of the past. lipos can last long, and hold a static charge for MONTHS!
