Converting Losi 8ight starter box to 12v gel cell
I have a Losi 8ight starter box and I have to say it is a great box except for the batteries that power it. I have 2 1800 Nicd stick packs powering it and I have a 12V battery that I would like to use to power it. Has anyone converted their box?

I use gell cell in my 2.0 box fits perfect and it last for ever like a lipo only issue is to fitting a lipo is way lighter then the lil gell cell:lol: but its all good. Just make sure when you do it make leads so you dont have to take apart your box to charge like i do.

i run the hangar 9 12volt in my 2.0 box its heavy but it last me forever
dnt get 2 lipos get one 11 volt is what my friend did and works great2 |
I ran a Gelcell in my SMD box (very similar to the Losi box) with no problems, other than the weight. Its a heavy battery to lug around with you.
Ive now converted to a pair of 5000mah 2s lipo's and its as light as a.....well, a small ally box :D Word of caution though, if you go to gelcell or LiPo, I would consider swapping any connectors you have to Deans or similar. Current draw from the motors when starting a tight engine will melt the Tamiya connectors as quick as a flash. |
The losi starter box works great with lipos.

if , your using the black losi eight box replace the stock motors with 2 traxxas titan 21 t motors you do have to cut the, motor shafts on them because they are longer than the stock motors. but they will last and are have more torque with a 12v gell cell thats what i use.

Lipo is the way togo, but gel is good but heavy...

really heavy. i went from a converted gel cell, to a converted lipo.. im only running 1, 3 cell lipo. lasts 2 days on a single charge, with mAH's to spare... light as a feather. amazing for a $20 battery. (minus the charger)
