magnetizing glow plug wrench???
 

hey guys,

here's a silly question for ya. am i gonna do any damage if i were to magnetize my glow plug wrench? im sick of the glow plug falling off. once, an new plug fell right onto the ground.

i cant use the fuel tube trick cause i need the wrench for clutch nut purposes.

i dont think it will do any damage but who knows.

You could but most glow plug wrenches have a spring in them to keep the plug in place once you push it down on the plug on it. You may just need to pull the spring back out some to get it to grip the glow plug or you may have lost the spring altogether. Either way i don't think magnetizing it will hold a glow plug, but you can try, it won't hurt anything.

Check out this glow plug wrench from O.S. - Part number is OSM71521000.

I got mine from Amain.

It has a little spring loader grabber built into it, and it works really well. There is a slight feel when you push it down, down, down until is grabs the plug.

Works great for removal, and a huge relief for installation!!!!

Ever since I got this glow plug tool, all my others collect dust. Still boggles me why nobody else makes theirs like this.

You have to glue a small piece of fueltube into the hole in the wrench. The tip of the plug will be pushed into the tube holding it.

im just gonna give it a shot and see whats up. if that fails, maybe the os plug wrench would work

I got them to send me a free "sample pack" for my work. Turns out several of the ring/tube magnets were just the right size for my dynamite glow plug wrench. A little CA glue to hold it firm, and voila....glow plug wrench with a magnetic head.

They're rare earth magnets....super strong, and work like a champ.

Yeah but what happens when he can't pull the wrench off his engine block? hehe kidding.

That OS plug tool is great might try and do that to my HUDY one as i hate when you are in a hurry and the plug drops back into the cooling head.

The OS wrench is fantastic. The only problem I had with it was the T handle was pretty small and it could be quite painful to remove a tight plug. I just pressed it out, drilled the hole out a bit bigger and pressed in a bit larger and longer rod. Now it's perfect.

Of course, mines the older, non-speed version. Looks like the newer speed version already has a larger T handle.

I just make sure my truggy/buggy are on the side when removing or installing the plug. That way it cant fall out as easy. Those tools do look nice, plus you can never have too many tools.

Ya, what he said. I always turn my buggy on it's side when starting a glow plug. Once you have it threaded in a couple turns put it back on it's tires. It's a good idea to turn them on there side anyways. So any dirt will fall out of the cooling head and not into the engine.
