How to drill hole on the spur gear?
I been trying to drill holes on the mugen spur gear,to lighten it up.Notthing sings to be work. That gear is just soo hard, and kill the bit almost right a way. I have tryed diff kind of bits what I could find in hardware and tool stores .I am using drill press with low rpm plus using cooling cut fluid to.I wondering if anybody knows what is the right way or the right bit .thanks!

If you have a drillpress then just bolt the slamp on the table, find a piece of round material fitting the hole of the gear and mount it in the clamp outside the center of the drillbit.
With the gear on it you kan drill the hole and turn the gear to the next position.

These parts are tempered and will be near impossible to drill into.

Gabe- give it to Mike Troxler at the indoor track in G-Boro. If anybody in your area can do it he can. He could either do it or get you a bit. If it's that hard, the bit will probably cost more than the gear, lol.

You can use either a carbide drill or , if you have access to a Bridgeport, a carbide end mill.
Or, send it to me.

Tech Adept
Cobalt are also very hard and do great at cutting hard metals.

It might help to drill a small pilot hole first then come back with a bigger bit.
