the 21tm is a great motor, easy to tune and keeps a tune very well.. By far beter than the 3.3

I'm not too familiar with the Jato but your limited by the traxxas engine mount. The .21TM does have the traxxas bolt spacing but it pretty expensive and I don't know what pipe and manifold you can fit in the jato.

I can't imagine the .21TM in the jato unless you just want to do doughnuts. I'd think it would be too much power to go in a straight line.

for simplicity and to save some money i'd just stick with the 3.3

putting a .21 o.s. in your jato would be like me putting an o.s. 28 in my buggy. Way to much power. and i don't know what kind of quality your drive chain is, but i would imagine it would chew it up fast.

My brother has a 3.3 in his rustler and it is way to much power for him. He can basically leave me in the dust (drag race) with no problem.

traxxastar21 06-10-2010 08:53 PM

how bout a .12 or .18 still to much power

rcdude236 06-10-2010 08:54 PM

an o.s. .18tz would rip in that thing. a friend had one in a gt2 and it went like a bat ooutta hell.

Nothing has not been Chain drive since the early 70s-80s rc cars...

now his Drive Train.. can take the os 21tm power...

we are talking about a mid block 21 not a full blown big block race engine here...

he needed to be more specific.

Sirio makes a direct drop in .18 for all the traxxas Vehicles that use the 3.3. I had it in my T max and it ripped the asphalt off the street

i would agree, but to drop a tz in a traxxas vehicle you will need a os18tm crank,

their motors are known to have tuneing issues, and air leaks, but yes the Sirio 18 was a power house for the t maxx back in the day!

hmm he had great luck with his. just another hit and miss thing with engines. Ive never been an o.s. fan so i cant say.

Jaz240 06-10-2010 08:59 PM

Its been years since I have had it but I had no problems with mine..all my troubles came from that god aweful transmission!

haha, the 3.3 trans is actually pretty stout, i raced a t maxx with one! never gave me trouble! but the pre 3.3 ex 2.5r and before all the gray plastic crap... the trans would blow apart if you looked at it wrong...

If oyu want something that is just crazy powerful and a direct drop in pick up the Picco .26 Red Dot.. INSANE!!!!!!!! I have it in my T-Maxx, and it will SMOKE a .21 TM in a similar T-Maxx. I just don't know if a Jato would hold up..

But, Like said the OS .18TZ would be a good choice.. You will have to cut the crank shaft or like PLumlee said pick up a .18TM crank shaft.
