Rain Tires
Hey guys, is there a 1/8 buggy tire that works really good in the rain or very wet and muddy conditions? At most races if the rain starts and it is not too bad they will continue running the race. Heading out to a race this weekend and I know if it rains the race will still be run, I want to have a set of “rain tires” ready to go just incase.

For offroad...in my area, if rain starts to fall durin a main, unless lightning is brewin, then the race usually continues. No way to change tires during a main. Well, you could, feasibly. But so much time would be lost it wouldn't be worth it. Now, on the flip side, if rain falls before the main, then we either way for it to let up, or usually would call it a day. But if you really, really want muddin tires...I bet most would agree. Badlands. Look em up.

If the track turns a little muddy, you will want something with larger lugs, and larger voids between them. This allows the mud to escape the tire, instead of packng it up. Something like a Crime Fighter type tire is what I would run if I had to in those conditions.

Go to any harder compound, large-lug tire.
Proline Badlands if it's really muddy; PL Bowties or similar would also work.
GRP "grip" or "cross" tread work be ok as well.
Another way of tackling the mud is to run a tight-tread tire like a PL Holeshot and let it clog up and just stay on top of the muck; like a flotation tire.

Cut every other lug off for both sides of the sidewall so the mud can escape. The soft compound lets the tires balloon up and fling the mud off.

when we start our races at our local track the track is completly muddy because of to much water the better tires for that are the hot bodies protos in the pink compound. what is good is that when the race starts out muddy and then gets dry the tires will still work on the dry surface so its a win win situation

actually u want a small lug tire so the mud doesnt stick to the tire, when it gets muddy any tire will get u the same traction, a smaller lug tire(holeshot, grid irons) will allow the mud to hold onto less. Nick(integra) even ran slicks out there and he seemed to have as much traction as everyone else did
At 2010 nitro challenge in az it poured the night before the mains, i went to a couple pros asking them tire suggestions all said what i wrote above including but but not limited to drake, thrue, fisher

Last years worlds was a mud bog! not only were they running small pin tires but they were cutting off rows of center pins

3 weeks ago at arc it started pouring in the heat right before me then let up b4 they put us on. Mark Pavidis recommended gridirons in truck so I switched out from calibers to grids and it worked great I tqd my race by over 5 seconds and was off tq by 2 seconds after all the rest of the heats went. So in my opinion small pins work great cause it doesn't get lugged down and dig it just stays on top. Also I saw at the worlds in Charlotte that mud day some guys were actually making really skinny wheels to cut down to the hard dirt but thats at charlottle in clay I was on arc where it's loam and has a good clean line.
