I do it all the time. its never split on me. if it gets to a point where the pressure is to much i hope it will push the clogged part out first. i've used soap to clog the holes or wax.

I have done This to 8 are more pipes and i have never had one Split and i leave them in all night works Great looks like a new Pipe when you are done. All you need to do is use a Rubber Stoppers that way if you do put in to much water it will just push out the rubber stopper that is what i do.
